1. Roger, Roger. One of my favorite movies of all time is Airplane! Identify one of these people with first or last name of Roger or Rogers. The answer must include the full name (first and last).
Austin Rogers - 1 point
Sims
<slow clap> This worked out amazingly well.
This is the scene where all the townspeople duck into the dry goods store or jump into the water trough to make way for the gunslinger. Git that singleton!

Freddie Mercury went unused, because the psychology of TD’s is mind-boggling.

Hell, I didn’t even give Mercury as part of the bonus out of a refusal to go with the obvious.

I actually had Jesse Carmichael (one of the "other guys" in Maroon 5) in my answer space before changing to Louis. I had thought that Jesse had come up on J! before and surely someone would remember the name .. then I thought .... there aren't that many people who were in middle school when these guys were popular, right? Oy. Love ya, TD!

Only one person listed Freddie in their bonus response - where it didn't matter how many picked him. I was a bit surprised at that.

I always underestimate the number of words that can be formed from the letters in another. Y'all surprised me with this one. No word was used more than twice.
Spoiler
3. Animated. Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film to be nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award. But that has nothing to do with this question. Give a 3 or 4 letter word using only the letters in “animated”. (The letter “a” appears twice, so you may use it twice. All other letters may only be used once.) I’ll use the SOWPODS English dictionary (commonly used for Scrabble) to determine if it is really a word.

Oh, good grief -- I eliminated words that were contained intact (mat, mate, mated, animate) and the one that's actually closely related to the original (anime) thinking "six someones are going to be clever and go for the obvious, so I'll avoid the sheep." Then only one of them was picked - by two people.

Why do I even bother? Oh -- only because it's so much fun.

Btw, if anyone is curious about what other words were possible or how many were, there are several online Scrabble word finders. Here's one - just type in the word "animated" and it will identify all Scrabble-legal words.

(Also, fwiw, the question specified that the word had to have either 3 or 4 letters.)

On to question 5. State capitals. We have 43 entrants, so theoretically, everyone could have a singleton. Only 13 people managed to accomplish that - including one brave soul who took the answer I gave in the question.
Spoiler
5. You get a singleton and you get a singleton and you get a singleton and ... My rough recollection is that there are typically between 40 and 50 entrants in the weekly TD. If this TD follows that pattern, here’s a chance for everyone to get a singleton. Name the capital city and its state’s USPS abbreviation for any of the 50 states in the United States of America. For example, Sacramento, Calif. would be wrong because it doesn’t use the USPS abbreviation. Sacramento, CA is the correct format. (And I just gave one correct answer away! Feel free to use it, if you want.)

Question 6 Bonus

This one turned out to be easy to score. Apparently, everyone who entered knows their Shakespeare. Everyone managed to name another play, so everyone gets the bonus.

Just for curiosity, Hamlet was the most common bonus answer by far, with 9 responses. MacBeth was the second most common, with 4 responses.

Measure for Measure, Much Ado About Nothing, Merchant of Venice, and Twelfth Night showed up in the bonus, but not in the main question. Twelfth Night was there 3 times, all the others once each.
