I can't believe I'm expending the keystrokes to defend the reputation of Fred Durst, but... you're thinking of Fatboy Slim. :D
Dammit you're right.

Fixed it.

Quantum (f annealing)
merica (E) Nirvana [worst band ever])

(just kidding, merica...you're down there somewhere...but there are certainly worse bands than Nirvana)

Ha! Although I am in the bottom half of this TD, I did a double take when this answer was in the "wrong" category. You got me on that one.
As a child of the '80s and all that is good with "hair bands", I respectfully repeat my position on Nirvana. It swept in an entire generation of utterly depressing and poor music in my opinion.
I grew up in the 90s, even though I wasn't that into the music then - I like the hair bands and classic rock a lot more, myself. That said, I couldn't resist when I read your answer and immediately thought of 5 bands of my "era" that I disliked more than Nirvana.

In case you were wondering, they were Nickelback, Creed, Hoobastank, Fatboy Slim (seriously...how do you get a hit song out of just repeating "right about now, the funk soul brother, check it out now" like 50 times?), and Savage Garden.
This list is not credible without the inclusion of 4 Non-Blondes. Fatboy Slim is just one guy.

Ya know, I liked the song "What's Up?" I also can't name another song by them, so they weren't on my radar.

Also true, but I was willing to loosen my definition of "band" for someone who released what I believe to be the worst song I have ever heard. And somehow, it was picked up by one of the "Now That's What I Call Music" compilation CDs.

Don’t buy those CDs; each track is the worst song I’ve ever heard.

While I can understand your criticism, Fatboy Slim gets a pass from me for his most excellent "Weapon of Choice" video.

Absolutely true fact about that video, that's just a normal day for Christopher Walken. Someone just showed up with a camera.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Fine by me that my Sara Lee Pound Cake got a singleton not being lumped in with plain old pound cake although I would not care if it went the other way either.

9. Mothering Sunday is celebrated in Europe as a day to attend your “mother” church, and also to honor your mother. Simnal cake is traditionally associated with this celebration. Name another edible item with the word “cake” in it (“cake” alone will not be counted as correct here).

A note on this one - I lumped pancake, hotcake, and griddle cake together because they're all referring to the same common object. I let johnnycake go on its own because, from a quick search, it's made with cornmeal rather than wheat flour. I let chocolate chip pancakes go on their own because they're different than regular pancakes. I think I kept consistent for this question, but if you feel like two or more things should be lumped together here, lemme know.

10. Letter and answer required. Name one of these other observances in the month of May.
  1. A Canadian celebration on the last Monday before May 25th (the 21st this year), honoring the birthday of a certain Queen.
  2. Observed on May 1st, it is a northern hemisphere spring festival. One of its traditions is leaving small baskets of flowers and sweets anonymously on neighbors’ doorsteps.
  3. On what day is Star Wars day normally observed?
  4. What leg of the Triple Crown of horse racing is run on the first Saturday of May?
  5. What leg of the Triple Crown of horse racing is run on the third Saturday of May?
  6. Cinco de Mayo, observed, of course, on May 5th, is not Mexican Independence Day (but you all knew that). Rather, it commemorates an 1862 Mexican victory over the French in what battle?
  7. Since 1945, what holiday has been celebrated on May 8th in Western Europe (and May 9th in Eastern Europe)?
  8. The Tuesday of the first full week is observed in the United States as a day to appreciate what profession?
  9. Currently, on what day in May do we observe Memorial Day (we celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday – your answer should look similar to that)?

Hey, if anyone ever plans to roadtrip through Springfield, MO, check out Best Western Rail Haven, an old motor court from the 30's located on Rt. 66. Our first visit happened to coincide with the annual classic car show downtown, and a lot of the participants were staying there. When we pulled into the parking lot and saw all the cars from bygone days, we thought we had entered the Twilight Zone.
We stayed there when we went out to visit my daughter and son-in-law.

Your first bonus opportunity was on Q4 - we asked:

We said that letter A on this question has 3 children. However, in one particular episode, she has four children because one of her children had a conjoined twin that was kept in the attic. What was the name of the twin that only appeared in that one episode?

On Q8, we asked:

Bonus (-3 points) – “pips” are also the name for the dots on dice and dominoes. How many total pips are on the dominoes in a standard double-six set?

So there were a few ways to figure this out. Most of them involve knowing or figuring out that there are 28 total dominoes (0-0 through 6-6 gives us 7 choose 2 = 21 dominoes, not counting the doubles, of which there are 7)

- You could have drawn all 28 of the dominoes and then counted the pips.
- You could have argued that since all of the numbers appear an equal number of times, the average number of pips on each side of a domino would be (0+1+2+3+4+5+6)/7 = 3, so each domino will have, on average, 6 pips, and so there are a total of 6 x 28 pips.
- You could have said that each number appears on 8 "halves" of dominoes (once each with 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, one of which is a double), so there would be 8 each of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, so we have 8 x (1+2+3+4+5+6) = 8 x 21 total pips.

Regardless, the answer is 168. The following people submitted a correct answer for -3 points:

---------------
gamawire
Magna
badgerfellow
mennoknight
Woof
floridagator
bev nar
xxaaaxx
wpwells

I'm sure there are other ways - I'd be interested if any of you figured it out in a different way.

Need to tell myself to RTFQ. I saw dice and ran with it, and took "double-six" to mean two six-sided dice. Not happy with myself on this one.

And here, I thought that you didn't know and gave me the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

Then again, three others also said 42...not sure which boat they're in...

When you are in last place, with 4 wrong answers, you should STFU, but I am bewildered to miss the domino question. I get that nobody knows the Addams family of Grafton, Ohio with children Puggsleu and Tuesday that like to tie kitten whiskers together. I even get that the loser Kansas City Royals can't get their crown in a logo collection. But I missed a math puzzle!! I don't remember my answer to deconstruct my method.
Congrats to all who finished in the top 47, and thanks SensiCay for the TD.
