Larry was 2/2 on big clues while his opponents were each 0/2 to make it a clear-cut and clean path to the finals. The game was so easy for him he had time to draw eyebrows, a mustache and add "Yay, Marvels!" to his correct response.

Back to .500 for the tourney for me as I was lost on the FJ! clue for a reasonable guess. I knew not to write Mt. Olympus and from there I had nothing better than writing, “Mausoleum” for an embarrassing miss. It was such a “Doh!” moment when Larry’s response was shown. Oh, of course. My bad.

Menelaus was the key for me here. I had some trouble parsing the second half of the clue, but I remembered Menelaus's connection with the Trojan War which gave me Trojan Horse, and the second half of the clue confirmed this.

"Pine" was what gave it to me.

Same here. Particularly when paired with Ulysses and Menelaus. Another case of smart folks overthinking it?? Because this seemed like another pretty easy FJ.

Nothing at all came to me on this FJ.

At least everyone made wagers that gave them a chance to win.
Complete the List champion, Episode 12.

My first association of Menelaus is from O Brother Where Art Thou?: Gov. Menelaus "Pass the biscuits" "Pappy" O'Daniel. But that was enough (with Ulysses) to get me to the Trojan War and then the Trojan Horse.

One of my favorite lines from the Coen Brothers (and there are many):

SOCIOLOGY $800 : First communion can be this type of 3-word ritual representing a change from one role to another.

Does a response of "Coming-of-age" work for you guys? (EDIT: Or "Coming of age" -- no hyphens -- rather.)

As for final, Ulysses/Menelaus led me to the Iliad, but I couldn't really think of anything beyond "Troy" and sat there through most of the think music knowing that couldn't be right. It was only towards the end that I realized what the correct response was ("pine" helped, indeed) and wrote it down.

That's what I said, but I'm not loving it.

I went with the other mythical Greek wooden vessel - the Argo. I knew there were a lot of famous Argonauts, but apparently neither Ulysses or Menelaus.
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

Most overvalued clue ever--spotting the initials "BK" in a fast food category on a fourth-row clue.
Glad to see the return of Those Darn Etruscans.
Sussed out FJ, not an instaget tho.

Yeah, that was pretty egregious.

I got the stoner, er, Munchie one for Jack in the Box thanks to LL last season.

I know nothing about Etruscans except the "Those Darn" running gag, so the entire category was a million miles over my head. Saw no way to figure out Romans in the top box.

"Jewels" -> "necklaces" was yet another bogus BMS, especially since it misled them down the "diamonds" path. Do they just BMS at random now?

FJ! was a total word salad to me. I couldn't even begin to decipher it. "Ribbed with pine" in particular was throwing me for a loop.

Sure, just not the best chance to win. In a SF game why would a challenger from way back bet anything other than everything? That should be common sense.

Should be.

I got FJ, but it took a while. I had to get the image of concentric rings of pine trees out of my mind. Ribs led to ship led to wooden constructs. Combined with the names, that led me to the Trojan Horse.
