Apparently "Gamma Ray" wasn't specific enough...
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

My 2nd RTFQ error for the 1-hit wonder ML. First was putting Wuthering Heights when it wanted the author, now it was putting Ellison when it wanted the title of the book. At least I'm making these errors when it's not the regular season....

You know, I completely missed the letters GRB in the gamma ray question…
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

Stupidly put Friendster down instead of MySpace. Anyone else in the 13% who got that question wrong?
Pagliacci was a tough one, but if you listen carefully to the audio clip, you can hear 'Pagliaccio'

Put Friendster because I thought Myspace was older than 2003, AND put "Leoncavallo" in a case of RTFQ.

Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread
Not only am I guaranteed a spot in the One-Hit Wonders final, I'm guaranteed first place in my group, leading my nearest three opponents (against one of whom I'm playing for the last match) by two wins (or their equivalent, anyway; I'm 8-1-0 and all three of them are 5-2-2).
edit: Yeah, somehow I thought today's match was the last before the final.

Welp, yesterday made for a nice test case for stumbling across the correct answer on accident.

I quickly did the math ML first, since I am getting killed there. Submitted, and got none right. To my surprise when opening the OHW ML, I see pretty much the same question. I'm like, its got to be the same guy and I did remember his name. But, is this cheating? I ended up leaving it blank but I feel like I should've been able to answer it without it being considered cheating. It would've been my second beer ever so that kind of hurt, but I did win my match. Nice that Thorsten confirmed my situation would not be considered cheating.

Yeah, that's one of the very few times I can think of where seeing an answer like that would not be cheating.classicroadster wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 11:08 am But, is this cheating? Re: LearnedLeague 77 - Official Thread
I haven't read the board thread on this yet so I don't know how much this has been debated, but to me the only way you get into a dilemma with this question is if you have both sets open at the same time, which is quite plausible: open one, read questions, plan to come back later, then open the second and read the questions. At this point if you realize that the two questions are asking for the same guy but you don't know who it is, you're in a tricky spot as whichever you submit first will give you the answer which by rights you should not be allowed to use for the second.
If instead you open the first, submit it, read the answers, then open the second and recognize the similar question, it's totally fair game to use the answer as long as you remember it. (I wouldn't click back to the first league to double check that I have remembered the name right.)

Is the glass half full or half empty? After finishing LL77 at exactly .500 (10-10-5), I finished the ML with a record of 4-4-3.
Additionally, I finished LL76 just above water at 11-10-4. Another statistical oddity is that in the last two seasons and the ML combined I've had 12 ties after going a phenomenal 60 matches without one stretching from LL72 into LL74.

I used to be AWSOP but wanted to be more theatrical.
