If actor Jeffrey Donovan needs a double then John could fit the bill.

It did not cost Mirza the game, but botching the Shakespeare Puck play is losing bucks and serving up a rebound to double the price of the miss. Mirza had an even bigger miss on DD2 and that may have cost him the match depending on how David would have wagered on DD3.

So much for prognostications about adding five wins to Mirza’s total after one win.

POP CULTURE SQUIRRELS had me waiting and waiting and I had to wait some more until the J!6 for this guy:
SpoilerShow
The FJ! clue was an insta-neg as I had the pluralizing error on my paper. I spent think time saying it both ways to myself and both sounded wrong and both sounded right. My bad and I deserve the miss for that error.

There are a lot of ways to make $5000+ and David padding his total worked well. On a TS clue he still would have won $2000 to $1000 to $300.

Though I'd say this result was a mild surprise, even my model wasn't that bullish on Mirza.

1926 British stories that take place in a forest. Winnie-the-Pooh in Hundred Acre Wood. That's 4/5 for the week.

The middle spot was 5/5 and not only that the prize winnings were higher each day.

My kids' precall:

They know full well this character is my spirit animal.

We loved David's unabashed enjoyment of the game. What a great attitude!

I enjoyed the collective murmur-gasp from the audience on that one.

Irony time: today instead of work my company had a “fun day” social event (which I term “Mandatory Fun”) here. (I most likely would have got it even if that name wasn’t in my mind today)

How was I supposed to know that was bronze?

I ran the Squirrels category, although I was tempted to clam on $1,000 to keep my pride.

"Utopia" was the only one of those "U" words I recognized.

Ran the Song Time category. I like the songs named in $400, $1,200, and $2,000.

Lach Trash: South Dakota, Vermont, "25 or 6 to 4"

No guess on FJ! Everything I tried was a dead end.

Coryat: 30,000
41 R/3 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: South Dakota, God is dead (DD), "25 or 6 to 4"

Early 20th Century kids' stories that take place in an English forest? The Hundred Acre Wood it is.

Mirza has to be kicking himself for missing that very easy DD. All else being equal, that lost him the game.

Anyone else lose the Odysseus/Ulysses coin flip?

NHO "Moses supposes..."

My wife and a former co-worker had a running joke whenever a song Rob Thomas or his band would come on the store PA system:
"What's the score?"
"Matchbox 20
Talent 0"
Sprinkles are for winners.

The middle contestant won all five games during the weeks of 10/28/13 and 6/16/14. Neither one had a pattern of progressively larger wins.

ETA: I guess I should also include the week of 1/5/09, in which there was a tie between a returning champ and the challenger in the middle spot.

EATA: The quarterfinals of both the 1990 Teen Tournament and the 1999 College Championship also saw the middle podium go 5 for 5.

I ran Anagrammed World Capitals and Song Time. However, my FJ answer was Pooh Corner.

Alex was having a lot of fun with the tongue-twister category.

Pop Culture Squirrels shows up, I'm thinking "Sandy from Spongebob is going to be an answer" and sure enough I was right. I was 3/5, including Animaniacs (miss that show, damn you Jamie Kellner).

Mirza really shot himself in the foot today, missing easy clues like God is dead and mistitling A Midsummer Nights Dream.

"Moses Supposes" and "How much wood" are the OPPOSITE of tongue twisters. They're designed to be easy and fun to say.

As a practicing Christian, I wasn't sure whether to yell "God is dead" at the screen when it came up.

My philosophy: We watch for the game. Players who get in the way of the game intrude, whether they're arrogant or adlib or cackle or fidget or make noise or are rude to AT. We want those who just play the game and don't make it about themselves to win.
