CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Kelly Griffin is a teacher from Brookhaven, Mississippi who toured the Vatican the wrong way.
Kelly: Oh, yeah.
Alex: What does that mean?
Kelly: My cousin and I went to visit my uncle when he was living in Rome, and he just kind of let us go off on our own. And so we decided we were gonna go to see the Pope, have Mass in Vatican Square. But when we got there, we couldn't find the entrance, so we walked all the way around the wall until we got there and it was over.
Alex: Okay. Good to have you here.
Alex: Ben Henry-Moreland from Omaha, Nebraska. You have done something very few people have done, and that is you have sung with...
Ben: The Rolling Stones.
Alex: Tell me about it.
Ben: I was part of a group in Boston that sang the introduction to "You Can't Always Get What You Want" when they performed there on tour in 2013.
Alex: Mm-hm.
Ben: And it was--yeah, it was an amazing experience, on stage with the Stones, so yeah.
Alex: All right. Good for you.
Alex: Jordan Nussbaum is our champion. He's an attorney from Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. Studied biology and history and then wound up being a lawyer. How did that come about?
Jordan: Well, the program I was in was really for people who were undecided about what they wanted to do. It was called the arts and science program, and they let you take one--one minor in any arts and one minor in any science, so I just took what I was interested in and let it go from there.
Alex: I majored in philosophy, and here I am hosting a quiz show.

DON'T TELL ME $1000: Sergeant Howie, you've got an appointment with the title pagan fella in this 1973 horror classic
THAT'S THE GOVERNMENT FOR YOU $800: Millard Fillmore Caldwell, William Sherman Jennings & Napoleon Bonaparte Broward governed this state
(Ben: What is Louisiana?)
...
(Alex: The word "Broward" should have helped you come up with [*].)
SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
Jordan: $6,400
Ben: $3,800

Double Jeopardy! Round Potential Lach Trash: $12,800
FIRST DOUBLE JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Kelly snagged the next Daily Double on the 1st clue. Jordan had $6,400, Ben had $3,800, and Kelly was at $2,200. Kelly wagered $2,000.
THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION $400: General Thomas Gage, military governor of this colony, gave the orders that started the war in 1775
SECOND DOUBLE JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE

SCORES ENTERING FINAL JEOPARDY!
Jordan: $11,600
Kelly: $8,200
Ben: $7,800
FINAL JEOPARDY! CATEGORY
STATE NAME ORIGINS
VENUSIAN MONOLOGUES/MARTIAN CHRONICLES
Two-thirds for first place. Stratton's Dilemma.
Jordan: Wager $4,801 to cover Kelly.
Kelly: You ought to wager to cover Ben, but since you cannot win on a Triple Stumper if you do so, you should choose between wagering $0 and maximizing your winnings by betting all $8,200. You are in Stratton's Dilemma, calling for a wager of more than $7,400 (to shut out Ben) or less than $1,400 (risking the possibility of being passed from behind by Ben). Go with the smaller bet if you believe a Triple Stumper is more likely than a singleton miss by Jordan.
Ben: Consider risking between $401 and $1,000. This will top a $0 wager by Kelly while still beating Jordan on the Triple Stumper (should Jordan wager to cover Kelly's doubled score).
FINAL JEOPARDY! CLUE
Though it doesn't have "island" in its name, it's named after a European island
FINAL SCORES
Ben: $7,800 - $7,798 = $2 (What is Maine?) (3rd place: $1,000)
Kelly: $8,200 + $8,000 = $16,200 (What is New Jersey?) (New champion: $16,200)
Jordan: $11,600 - $4,801 = $6,799 (What is Maine?) (2nd place: $2,000)
Total Potential Lach Trash: $16,000

Re: Monday, June 25, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]
DD3: Are we playing J! or Scrabble? Did that clue about Mika’s dad really need to be one of the DDs?
The players hit a rough patch during part of the DJ! round including this one that gets a nod from the Current Events thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4492&p=279747#p279747
The FJ! category had me using the break to brainstorm as much as I could about the states and their names. Included in that was colors (thinking VT & CO), Native American names, and royalty. The helpful part of my process turned out to be the states with two-word names.
When I saw the clue I was on it immediately with no frantic search of the U.S. map or European waters needed. Redemption for missing the FJ! clue from this game is mine: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=5922
Kelly’s 2/2 on big clues was enough to get her a second game and we’ll see if Alex makes a remark about an American winning to open tomorrow’s show.

Re: Monday, June 25, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]
Spent the entire commercial break brainstorming state name origins, and it didn't matter; I would've started close to home anyway. Instaget FJ. Not sure why they both picked Maine.
The last line of the Declaration of Independence, a TS?

Re: Monday, June 25, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion [SPOILERS]
I thought "artesian well" was by far the easiest in Kuwait. Not the slightest hint of a clue on the rest.
Once again I whiff on a planet clue because I can't keep Jupiter/Saturn/Uranus/Neptune straight. That just seems to be one of my biggest mental blocks, and I CANNOT for the life of me find a way past it.
I recognized the songs as being by the Allman Brothers Band, but couldn't remember whether it was Duane or Gregg. I'm surprised just "Allman" didn't get a BMS.
I got as far as figuring that it must be an Eastern state given a European name, but from there I was sunk. I tried all of the colonies, but none seemed to fit.
Lach Trash: Artesian, Florida

It seemed like there was more than the usual amount of triple stumpers in that DJ round; Ben at least had the decency to look embarrassed! Kudos for Kelly for being the only one able to pull out that FJ.
And what was Alex going on about if the state had been named New Guernsey??

In "po"pourri, I said "Maypo" for "a boiled breakfast cereal." I think they would have had to give it to me.
Instaget FJ.
I wonder if people went for Maine, thinking about the Isle of Man?

I also began in the East and with the "new" states so I was done quickly. Maine did seem an odd guess.

I started by thinking of islands instead. When that proved fruitless, I frantically went down the East Coast and said Florida just for the sake of putting something down.

I'm shocked. I think that from now on when they ask for a BMS, you should be able to just say, "No, give me the money."

trash pickup: artesian, Declaration of Independence (how?), Wicker Man, Florida (spotted Broward?), Saturn (ok, this was a WAG), Medea, Midgard, Go-Gos for 9200 trash.
FJ had me searching islands, barely got to Jersey in time. Would TPTB accept an answer "What is NJ?"
Agree with above posters that Allman should've got a BMS.

It is the official postal abbreviation. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t take it.
