When Lauren picked FRENCH TOASTS (nice timing by the writers coinciding with today’s World Cup result) for $200 she had $2400 and when the category was done she had $5400 and applause for the run.

When Beth picked ALL IN THE OLD TESTAMENT FAMILY for $400 she had $1800 and when the category was done she had $8600 and applause for the run.

At chat time Lauren mentioned her website specializing in writing about royal jewelry. This is the link: http://www.thecourtjeweller.com/

How in the world did Lauren get the WRITERS ON SPORTS $600 clue? She likes baseball: https://twitter.com/laurenkiehna?lang=en and Linear Gnome & Wpwells will have an added reason to root for Lauren.

As if WRITERS ON SPORTS did not skew old enough with the stumpers at $800 & $1000 the J!6 referenced Bob Hope.

So much for Marilyn’s game’s worth of experience helping her although as always when it happens, better in game 2 (or better) than in game 1.

In Learned League I have a whopping .353 in Business/Economics, so I did not like today’s category. I did not like the clue either as I was lost for a decent guess.

In wanting to have something on the paper I was not even able to correctly spell my wrong guess. I wrote Valuepack and knew that was too many letters. Even Valupack (turns out it’s Valpak) did not look right. With time almost gone I had another inspiration and attempted a change. I got as far as “Dollar St” as the music ended.

Lauren solved the clue to show it’s a fair one and I wished I had sniffed out a TV connection. So much for having seen the movie Joy helping me. I deserve the miss as even if the clue had wanted the words for the letters I would have likely botched the last one

It’s been too many years since I saw this clue to recall it:
SpoilerShow

#6351, aired 2012-04-09 BUSINESS LETTERS $1600: Since its inception in 1986, QVC has offered customers quality, value & this, right from their homes

(It’s convenience)

I've worked closely with QVC in my line of work, and I know for sure that it stands for Quality, Value, Convenience and also that they're based in PA. Instaget due to personal experience.

Tried to think of a brick-and-mortar business, so I wasn’t getting this one. I didn’t know TV shopping was still a thing.

It wasn't really clear to me that "value" was literally part of the business name. I went after a similar term and came up with Best Buy.

Ooh, thanks for the shout-out. Steeleville, IL didn't register as "St. Louis area"--it's about a 75 minute drive away, apparently, and her tweets make it clear that she follows the Cardinals.

Good thing I got Monday's FJ! (I don't think that's a spoiler) because I've whiffed the rest of the week. I knew what QVC stands for but I didn't know it was headquartered in PA. I went with True-Value Hardware to have something.

Same here. That really wasn't clear. Today I learned that Best Buy is older than I realized, though.

TV shopping never occurred to me; went Costco.

Anyone who correctly answers Ted Williams is a friend in my book - Lauren was awesome and I hope she keeps winning.

I really enjoyed this board. I got the Lach trash on Joe Louis and Jim Brown and was happy to see two clues on pugilists. And Henry Kissinger was an educated guess.

Vive la France was the only one that I got in that category, and that seemed like such a roundabout way to ask for a familiar phrase. But I do like escargot!

I am disappointed that I didn't have more time to think to see if I could come up with Miriam and Absalom.

Second row DD in U.S. Geography? I would have made it true, and a softball clue becomes even easier since I attended FSU.

If only the Utica clue had had a TOM on Superintendent Chalmers.

My guess for FJ was the Dollar Tree. I was definitely thinking in terms of brick and mortar stores, and I am especially disappointed in myself for missing it since I am such a big fan of a certain show that features the Queen of QVC.

Rare to have two category sweeps in one show.

I said Family Dollar, since I was only thinking of brick-and-mortar stores. Nice tricky clue today.

it is in oakland this week...and fs1 is showing the events live this season...but why it is being shown on network tv in denver is beyond me

Retail had me thinking brick-and-mortar, and I was wondering if "value" was literal or a synonym (Costco? Best Buy??)...until it dawned on me about 20 seconds in that Value was the V in QVC. 1986 seeemed to be the right year for the launch of a new home shopping outfit as well.

That Tallahassee DD couldn't have been any easier if they had just showed it on a map and said "this capital".

I thought the clue might've hinted towards wanting a business known by initials, so I tried to go down that avenue and said CVS. No way I was getting to QVC.

Lauren had an impressive debut. Can't wait to see how she does when she returns Monday.

I sometimes drive by the QVC headquarters to get to my brother's house depending on which route I take, otherwise, I would've had no idea.

It's on KTVU the regular Fox affiliate in the Bay Area and it does not have anything to do with it being in Oakland this week. It's Fox nationally trying to get it more exposure by airing it on the main network. It's listed for FS1 on 7/13 (Detroit) and 7/20 (Miami).

I did not catch the time, but I heard a mention about President Trump announcing his pick for the Supreme Court on Monday. Whatever the time is figure on it being more than 2 minutes of the networks interrupting regular programming.
