RETRONYMS
By Woof. A retronym is a new name for a familiar thing, typically that comes into being only after something similar is introduced. You should provide the retronym (or new name) suggested by the clue: be sure to give a complete response.

2: The presence of a clutch pedal in your car is indicative of this disappearing two-word feature in cars.

4: This popular soft drink only acquired its retronym after a failed marketing campaign in 1985.

6: People were using these to tell time long before this retronym came into being in the digital age.

8: These power sources are hard to recycle, leading to the more recent introduction of rechargeable versions.

10: On the cooking instructions for many frozen foods, you'll find a reference to this kitchen appliance for a slower approach to heating than its more modern counterpart.

ENTERTAINMENT BEFORE & AFTER
Put together combinations of classic novels and familiar movies and television shows. As usual, each correct response consists of two halves connected by a common word or words.

3: An angel earns his wings by helping a tiger named Richard Parker survive a shipwreck in the Pacific Ocean.

6: An Anthony Burgess novel reflecting on the unintended consequences of chemically treating women in an Upstate New York minimum security prison.

9: In Theodore Dreiser's 1900 debut, a small-town girl moves to New York City to become this alter-ego of newspaper columnist Candace Bushnell.

12: Before she dies at the hands of her psychotic cross-dressing therapist, Angie Dickinson helps exonerate an Alabama man falsely accused of rape.

15: John Updike opens his Pulitzer-winning series about a salesman and erstwhile high-school basketball star who decides to train for a marathon to lose weight and win back the heart of his former fiancee.

Again, guessing it's a refence to the "Rabbit" series. Again, no clue about the second element. *deep sigh*
