I didn't think 'Amazon' for final jeopardy, since I thought the River was, in part, in the Northern Hemisphere. I'm still poring over maps to see if the delta is across the Equator. For what it's worth, the basin is partly in the northern hemisphere.
Hey, all three got it right, so no harm, except to my sense of geographic pride.

Thought of Indonesia first, wasn't sure where it was relative to the equator, figured there was nothing preventing a coastal trip and came up with.... Chile. Oof.

Right - I was running ocean kayaking routes in my head, since Australia's long rivers spend much of the year being dry.

I immediately thought "river" and got FJ! almost right away. It didn't even occur to me that it might be talking about an ocean instead of a river. Probably bad that I completely overlooked that it might not necessarily be a river, but a right answer is a right answer :D!

That was the eephus pitch of FJs, and it totally got me. I thought of Brazil first, but I figured that was too easy and that the Amazon was north of the equator. Ended up going with Argentina. In related news, TIL that the Rio de la Plata is actually fairly short (180 miles).

It didn't end up mattering, but Isaac really should have gone all in on DD3.
I didn't do so bad myself to open with $31,800, despite missing six - but I similarly whiffed on Final, thinking the same on the Amazon. Got down to Argentina and Australia and chose the latter.

I thought it had 2. I pronounced it "Quinn-i-pac" for an expensive neg.

Another one here for Indonesia. As a kayaker myself I have no excuse for overlooking fresh water kayaking and instead figured that “through” meant a big island nation in the S hemisphere, of which there is only one. :o

This Final Jeopardy! kind of reminds me of the draft card Final Jeopardy! All three players got it right, yet a lot of people on J!Board missed it.

I could see someone getting stuck on FJ because Brazil lies on the equator although the majority lies south.

I guess I'll be the first one to have Chile as an FJ guess. Like others have said, kayaking to me suggested ocean kayaking. I never even thought of kayaking down a river. How lame. :D

[edit: looks like DBear beat me to Chile]

Not sure where I stand on bearded Alex.

The LTAMs seemed very early today, but we ended up leaving only one clue behind, so I can't complain.

Ran "In" the Dictionary, and Latismus was my only miss in Exercise.

I thought I was being derpy with the North category, but the contestants seemed to struggle with it too.

I gave an "Oh hai, Mark" before Movies for $1,600.

Longest journey by kayak, contained with in a nation, within the Southern Hemisphere? Only place I can see that happening is the Amazon, which is in Brazil. Instaget, and surprised at all the whiffs here. Overthinking?

TIL I learned two things:

a) What TIL means (in spite of the mangled opening syntax  )
2) The show is back on and the hiatus is over. Time to reset the evening dinnertime rhythm.

I dread seeing the hirsute AT tomorrow. Maybe I'll just skip this week. Not!

FJ (from here on the board): Easy get and a WECIB. Thankfully, I didn't think about all the alternate wrong answers, like duh Australia/Indonesia.

I really don't mean to throw shade at Helen Whatsername, but this seems like an un-notable achievement to be a "record" these days - take a whole month and have all the First World resources at your disposal? Not exactly the Oregon Trail imho.

I wonder if the judges might have accepted "Quinn-i-pac." Couldn't the third i in theory be silent?

As far as the double, I went with Chile, and thought of Brazil too late to change my answer. I was just going with the first rather long country I could think of.

I just watched on DVR, so I'll offer a third. Never occurred to me it had to be one river, and not a series of tributaries or some shoreline. Never thought of Brazil because of the hemisphere thing.

No problem on the Q, due to women's basketball. Double-clutch on Mount Holyoke because of Harry Potter and the Curse of the Alphabet.

Figured with 2,000 miles of country, it had to be a river and it had to be Brazil. Brazil it was.

I have the Seven Sisters circled as something to study - Never been able to keep them straight. Would've come in handy last night! D'oh!

Rick is a solid player and he didn't show any rust after the hiatus. I think we could be looking at a ToC player by mid-week.

I never considered anything but rivers because of the word "through" in the clue. The Nile was a candidate for its length, but I didn't think it had two thousand miles in any one country (which, upon rereading, I realize the clue wasn't asserting; it said that she spent a month in the country in question while traveling the 2,010 miles. She started the trip in Peru). The category and the clue seemed to limit the possibilities to Argentina, Brazil, and Australia, and Brazil was the only one I felt comfortable guessing.
