Alex denied me the chance to solve Friday's FJ on my terms. I think I could have, but I can't know for certain.

I knew the cap and the Herman's Hermits song but blanked on both.

Royalty will forever just be a mishmash of names and Roman numerals to me, so no guess.

I don't recognize anything about Pygmalion beyond its title.

"Catholic" had me stuck on churches and the like, not realizing the religious significance of the Alamo.

I was stuck on "police" on Friday and trying to think if there was some famous detective or buddy-cop movie from the 70s that I was blanking on. Alex's accent went right over my head.

I was not pre-empted.

Wavered between Edward VII and George V (I knew the kings between Victoria and Elizabeth II alternated Edwards and Georges, but I wasn't sure which was first) and settled on the right one.
I was preempted Thursday.
I generally play Final off the website, so no voices for me.
12/15 season to date.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Know all about Grafton, but didn’t think they would be looking for a “popular” author and her name never occurred to me.

Didn’t need Alex’s impression on Friday.

George V Monday...even without remembering the proper succession, I should have noted that the Edwardian era followed the Victorian era...
I have a mental blank on a certain popular author's name...every time these clues come up, the name I remember is Kinsey Millhone, her detective. I can't get beyond that - I just looked it up again before posting. Janet Evanovich I remember, Sara Paretsky, I even read a Patricia Cornwell novel once (never again!)...I have trouble dredging up Sue Grafton....
I was still mulling the clue when Alec's impression kicked in, so I'll never know, though it strikes me as quite easy. Alec's being silly doesn't usually bother me, but this was an egregious example...
Remembered the Herman's Hermits tune, could not come up with the Mrs...Just another part of my first really mediocre game of the season...

M I worked it out, TWR instagets, F the voice definitely helped me. 12/15 on the season.

Degas was my first thought, but I stupidly said Renoir. Other two were NHO, but I'll remember them in the future!

Mon - George V

Fri - Had it without the voice. I'm even sure that as soon as I reached the quote part, I thought, "He's going to do a voice, isn't he?"
I'm fine with it; we've only got a few years left anyway. But I am hoping the replacement doesn't keep up the act. :D

I knew it was a George, but had no clue on the number and guessed wrong

As far as The Godfather goes, I initially thought of it, but I'll never know if I would have come up with it because I knew immediately when Alex did his impression.

I also knew Mrs Brown from my 45s record collection when I was young.

I wasn't thinking about the right things on Monday--even if I had been, I'm not sure I would have gotten the right response.
Had to find an alternate means of watching J! on Thursday.
I happened to be in a different room when Alex read Friday's clue--managed to get it right, but might have missed it on some other day.

8/15. Might as well start my ticker:

I played all the FJ's from here. Friday's meshes with this one, which didn't really allow for Alex to do an impression, though he did indulge himself a bit before the reveal.

I don't know whether all aired normally here or not, so anyone who watches from NYC may vote for me also.

I think I've read several Sue Graftons, a couple of Janet Evanoviches, a Sara Paretsky, and I don't know about Patricia Cornwell, maybe one or maybe not. I began to read the latter's book about Jack the Ripper; was it called "Case Closed"? If not the title, that was her claim. Utterly ludicrous. Though it's not rare for me to start a book and put it aside, it's usually not with the conviction I will never pick it up again. This was an exception.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Alex's impression helped me in the sense that it made me realize the character must be someone people do impressions of, and after discarding Rocky, I almost immediately thought of the right character.

I didn't see Friday's show, and played FJ off the board. I'd like to think I'd have gotten it with help of the impersonation, but as it is, an embarrassing miss thanks to a brain freeze.

Tuesday came quick after getting past Alex's accent.
Had Friday's question before Alex got to the quote.

Damn those bland Mancunian bastards and their saccharine, forgettable songs! :x
I would prefer not to.

Got Edward VII from a combination of "Upstairs, Downstairs" and a variety of other PBS shows about the Brits.

Instaget for "Godfather" on NYT CotD; Jeopardy was preempted in Denver for football. It was listed as being shown at 2 a.m. Friday morning, but some other game show was on and got recorded instead. Would have liked to have seen Alex's impression. Or, judging from the responses on the board, maybe not.

Should have gotten "Pygmalion," but blanked and "Importance of Being Earnest" became a desperation WAG.

I remembered the Alamo. Though I've never stalked a deer, I can quote chapter and verse from much of the Holmes canon.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.
