Nice timing with the clue about the Nobel Prize not awarded.

Nice coincidence for Adam to get the clue wanting the place that matches the name of his home state. When you hate being the best on the buzzer? Adam having the wrong place in India and not only losing the money, but serving up the rebound as well.

Alex was set up to have a long time to regret missing DD3 and caught a break in the FJ! round to take the game from the 2nd place position.

The FJ! clue was one where I kissed it to keep it simple. Bible to lawgiver and done. I completely understand how the quick path did not work for Adam and how much more difficult the clue could become with a wider search.

Adam: You were an extremely good sport throughout the contest in applauding your opponents, enjoying the whole experience and taking your 0/2 for the FJ! clue in fine spirits. Congrats on the title of Jeopardy! champion and the perfect record on Daily Doubles.

This game is a draw for the Strong Form of Shore's Conjecture. The second-place player bet "small." --Bob

This might be FJ clue where my lacking knowledge of a subject, in this case The Bible, actually helped me. I thought that Moses seemed too obvious, but I had nobody else to guess.

29,000 Coryat. Whiffed on grappa (I called it "groppo"); I'm obviously not a drinker. But missing it like that means it'll stick next time. OTOH I was happy to see the zither music of The Third Man get a mention; too bad it wasn't an audio clue.

FJ I considered and dismissed the correct answer (Solomon as well) because I assumed that for church/state reasons, the House wouldn't put such a major Judeo-Christian figure there. I said Julius Caesar.

Solomon here; didn't really think about whether he would be deemed more a judicial than legislative figure.

Moses didn't even occur to me - despite four decades of so of watching The 10 Commandments every year. :D

Coryat: 29,400
41 R/2 W
DD: 2/3
FJ:
LT: (none)

I knew that Moses appears on the Supreme Court Building, so I figured he was probably the Biblical figure portrayed at the Capitol as well.

Here is the Capitol image:

And the one on the exterior of the Supreme Court Building:

Ran "EZ".

I was confused by Float for $400 since it had a "seen here" and "one of these". Can someone post the image? I've looked at it a good four times and I still don't see that as a bottle at all.

Fort Night and Hard Stuff were miles over my head. Not the slightest bit of recognition on anything in either.

Why wasn't "clam it" overturned?

I found the DJ! board very difficult. Didn't recognize anything in British Plays. "Look Back in Anger" doesn't seem even the tiniest bit familiar to me.

Kazakhstan was my best get of the day. I happened to glance at a globe recently and was surprised by how big it really is, since I thought all the -stans were tiny.

Lawgivers in the Bible? Let's try Moses.

This list actually includes a couple of popes and one saint.

Moses seemed obvious, especially with all the recent controversies about Ten Commandments artwork in public areas. My precall for FJ was John Brown (thinking of John Steuart Curry's Prelude to Madness displayed in the Kansas Capitol, one of my favorite paintings.)

I briefly considered Solomon, but Moses is more known as a lawgiver. Justinian, tho? :o :o
The current events thread helped get the Nobel Prize in Lit clue.

It's pretty much larger than all the other former Soviet Republics combined.

Ouch, Adam! Heckuva time for a brain fart. I have to think on another day you totally would've nailed this one.

Congrats to Alex on a savvy wager, even though he didn't need it since he got FJ.

Contestant Alex missed his opportunity to say, "Who is a geezer, Alex?" But Trebek played it well anyway.

Anyone else yell "What is STAY CLAM?!" for the 2-word bivalve mollusk idiom meaning to become silent?

TS for the soundtrack instrument for The Third Man. Too bad. Great movie. Great soundtrack. Classic well-known Hollywood story.

I suppose they had to accept teapot for the subsection of Sagittarius. But if that's steam rising from the spout, the proper term is tea KETTLE. A real teapot doesn't get set on the burner. It's a serving vessel. It may have a little "steam" curling out of it, but not a Milky Way's worth.

If you're staying, you're not becoming, right??
Not 1, but 2 (consecutive!) clues shared subjects with comments here in recent days - The Nobel in Literature and Look Back in Anger...
A common thought at many FJ reveals this season - Can it really be that easy...?!
