Re: Tuesday, November 6, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Mary Ann went for a salute for her introduction in honor of:
Sailor Moon
Alex had zero recognition and would be more likely to have known the one Benny Hill did.
The game was close for a time and then Mary Ann went to work in the DJ! round.
That was unusual for the Clue Crew AT THE FOUNTAIN to leave a clue unplayed.
For the FJ! clue it did not take long to write a letter and a number. It reminded me of some FJ! clues from the early years being short and to the point. Ouch for the hit on Mary Ann’s pocketbook not matching the category.
Two weeks of teens until Mary Ann’s return on Thanksgiving Eve.

Mary Ann is really really good, huh?
Lonnie was in my audition group -- first among us that I recognize on the show.
A lot of negs (5) for me today, mostly of the dumber sort. Maybe I was too aggressive, but I think I just confidently made the wrong mental connections, which, with a moment's further reflection, I might have corrected. I know that Nepal borders China and Norway borders Russia; that Hezbollah -> Lebanon, and that Brunei is not a peninsular country (Borneo + monarch whisked me there.) I do not, in fact, know what Angela Lansbury looks like but if my mind had been able to get away from Maggie Smith I would have gotten there. I still wound up with an OK Coryat, because I likely rang in on more clues than in any previous game.
Final came together quickly for me; I studied kinesiology at one point... I had to double-take to make sure I had the right letter, but I was pretty confident.

All in on Mary Ann - that was so much fun to watch. Excited for the Teens but man I wish I could see her play again sooner.
TIL that Bumper Pool is actually his given name. Thought it was a nickname.
Almost certain I'll be the only one who got Final this way but nevertheless... huge NASCAR fan. Sterling Marlin cracked a C1 vertebrae that cost him the 2002 title.

Mary Ann is from my home town. I am unbelievably thrilled for her. It was very touching to hear her talk about the educational levels of her family, which was not surprising to me.
I feel like she plays at one level for a while and then takes a hit, misses a high dollar daily double... then she rallies and comes out swinging. Once she gets rolling? Look out!

Congrats to Mary Ann on another great win. Sucks on the FJ $10K loss, though I'm looking forward to her return.
The FJ confused me. It seems simple in retrospect, but I was not able to put down anything. "Coccyx" came to mind but I figured that was not alphanumeric, and I believe it's actually the tailbone so I thought it couldn't be right. But at least I was on the right track with the "C". So I'll take that.
Hopefully I can be 4/5 this week come the first three TT games. Speaking of the TT, why did they stop bringing back their winners to ToCs? I know it's been that way for a long time now but what caused the change?

Dat intro from Mary Ann, doe..... if I ever get on this show, I'll do the same thing she did in her intro. I love Sailor Moon.

49 R
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: Lebanon, Turkey, (Balmoral), Malaysia, Christopher Columbus , Alluvial, Phantom of the Opera
Probably would have gotten the last clue in Books of Romans, making that 50.

Mary Ann annoys me. I don't know why, but I hope she doesn't end up as a 10-time champion after the teen tourney.
Time for 2 weeks of Kardashianesque pop culture during the dreaded teen tournament. Better bone up on my Dancing With The Stars knowledge.

And in the category of unusual misses (yeah, getting fancy with the Universities should have cost him Auburn - I was surprised it was accepted) is Lonnie and the plethora of journalists held hostage in Israel.
Also surprised neither got FJ. Mary Ann is certainly quick and has good range of knowledge, but her competition has been, well, underwhelming. I don't think we know yet how she'll respond to a good test. Though maybe she'll star in the next adaptation of Sailor Moon.

Re: Tuesday, November 6, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
There had to be a better way to lead into Mary Ann's interview story, Alex...oh well, at least it was better than her interest in retro games.
Do we really have to watch the teens? I'd rather watch more dominating performances from Mary Ann. Some troubling TSes (they really overthought that Columbus clue), but I think/hope she has a long run in her.
Between medical shows, and a bunch of relatives with back issues, I'm familiar with the terminology. So FJ was just a matter of remembering the right order: C(ervical), then T(horacic), then L(umbar), C1, done.
I know nothing about Sailor Moon other than that it's a thing that exists, so all I could do was shrug even after she explained the salute.

I feel like Key and Peele should have been involved in that college category somehow.
My precall was "the neck", so I was starting out in the right area. After seeing the clue, I guessed that they're numbered from the top down, because the alternative is too cruel. I just looked it up, and I was right that there are 7 cervical vertebrae, which would have been handy if the clue went in that direction. I probably remember that because of giraffe trivia. Also:
I'm looking forward to finding out which obscure pop culture things from the teens' infancies the clue writers think they should know about. (Turns out I've slightly misremembered the specific thing I had in mind -- it was actually Kids Week 2013 when there was a clue about Invader Zim, a show that ended when the oldest contestant was at most 5.)
