Who's Special #2
Still no TD going on, and nobody else stepped up for another WS, so I guess I'll try another one!
Who's Special? is a board quiz, 30 questions in 6 categories selected by the players. It's first come, first served. You get to suggest a category, and if I feel I can do it justice, I'll add it to the board. If I reject your category, you can then request a different one. One at a time, please. Also, the more Jeopardy-like the category, the more likely it'll be used. You may know everything there is to know about Spring Town Holidays in East Murmansk Russia, but I'm inclined to believe we'll get no piggy-backers on it, so... probably not.
When you've filled the board, I'll list the 6 categories and who requested each one. Then while the questions are being written (about 72 hours), anyone who wants to play declares a specialty by piggy-backing on one of those six. If you got a request approved last game, please defer to other boardies and their categories, thanks! (mitchparov, you're ok to request).
Scoring is 2 for correct, -1 for incorrect, and 0 for clam, except for your specialty category!
(NEW SPECIALTY SCORING RULES!)In your specialty, you decide how much each is worth! Yes, you personalize the difficulty. You still must answer all 5 questions in your specialty, NO clams, but after each answer give it a value of 1-5, using each value once. You gain or lose that many points for that answer.
You may play without a specialty, but then you lose the chance for a maximum score (65). Don't be afraid of a specialty. I strive to write questions that are fair and answerable for anyone who thinks they can compete on the show. If I do my job right, your specialty's questions should feel like Kid's week (or even easier, Celebrity!), and all the rest Standard J!
Once the questions are posted, you have only 96 hours to answer them.
Ties are broken by earliest entry.
So, what can I write for you?

How about a category entitled "Elementary, Watson"? It could either be about chemical elements or the Sherlock Holmes canon (or even outside the canon if you include the Laurie King novels).

Or it could be about DNA.earendel wrote:How about a category entitled "Elementary, Watson"? It could either be about chemical elements or the Sherlock Holmes canon (or even outside the canon if you include the Laurie King novels).
Just because I'm in the mood for self-torture, how about "International Dairy Products"?

It looks like we're missing a wordplay/vocabulary category.
How about "F"ive letter words. (imitates Alex) Notice the quotation marks.

I'll put in a request for James Bond--I hope it doesn't count as a repeat request!

Our science category! Elements discovered when Nobel prize winner James D. Watson was in Elementary school (or damn near close, either way)!earendel wrote:How about a category entitled "Elementary, Watson"? Not sure I could do this justice, sorry.debramc wrote:Just because I'm in the mood for self-torture, how about "International Dairy Products"?
our lit category! "Shakespeare Meets Star Trek" Most of the clue you will need to rely on your William Shakespeare knowledge, but TOMs will come more from William Shatner (and his successors)Peggles wrote:I'll stick with the old standby Shakespeare.
Geography greets us with "Paucle's Trips West" ! 1977 and 2008 I visited over a dozen of these, so this'll be fun! (As well as a couple eastern ones I've hit.)bomtr wrote:may i have some national parks, perhaps?
I like it! I think I can learn a few things writing this one.cheezguyty wrote:Languages of Africa

We need one more, I'm going to peruse the rest of the suggestions and start working on these. If anyone sees a glaring category type missing (other than word-play, which aye covered) that's be your best bet to get your specialty in.

I know I've had my say, and forgive me if it's out of line, but Latin American history might be interesting. More unusual, arcane, and maybe more fun to write?mam418 wrote:Hmmm... need a history one. How bout British royalty?

(But then again, I'm coming up with, slowly, a British themed TD. So I'm down with Latin American history. just don't put it down for my specialty!)

Re: Who's Special #2
Upon a little further reflection, I apologize. It was thoughtless of me not to consider this was to be your specialty, and I've already chosen a specialty. So mams, I am sorry for butting in, and paucle....never mind!mam418 wrote:Very true.
