I'm beginning to get a whole Battle Royale vibe about a tournament run this way.
BTW, since the show is all about the ratings, I think anything that makes the second night less intriguing for the audience isn't going to work.
What if they changed the tournament format so that the last-place finisher in the first day of the finals is eliminated?

I had this thought as well. Maybe the 1-2-3-4 payout ratio instead of the 1-2-4-8 which is capable of making the first day irrelevant. And players would have a realistic chance of busting the "minimum" of 25/50/100K. But then it might chill the betting if two are at 40K and they don't want to expose the 15K overage to win another 10K.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 9:50 amInteresting. Maybe Day 2 would be the Triple Jeopardy and Quadruple Jeopardy rounds. Clue values from $800 to $4000 in TJ and $1600 to $8000 in QJ.twelvefootboy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 7:44 pm If they want to treat this as a one hour final with four boards, they could at least let them bet Day 1 money in DD's and FJ.
Having just seen the final, the best player won. That is the desirable outcome no matter how tricked up the game is set up.

And maybe they can carry over the scores from Day 1 into Day 2. That would make the previous day's winnings available for Daily Double and Final Jeopardy wagers.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 9:50 amInteresting. The risk from the producers’ perspective is that the two-day totals of the runners-up are more likely to exceed the guaranteed minimums, and thus add to the show’s expense. Considering all tournaments that have had the current finalists’ payouts of $100k/$50k/$25k - the most recent two Teen Tournaments, all Teachers Tournaments, and College Championships since Season 21 - on only two occasions has a guaranteed minimum been surpassed. They were both third-place finishers: May 2009 College Championship 2nd runner-up Laura Betts ($29,900), and February 2010 College Championship 2nd runner-up Surya Sabhapathy ($26,600)joepozz wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 10:13 amAnd maybe they can carry over the scores from Day 1 into Day 2. You're combining two players' names there; Laura Myers won $29,900 as second runner-up, while Eric Betts was the first runner-up.
Also, it's not from a $100,000-$50,000-$25,000 tournament final, but the first $250,000 ToC had $50,000 and $25,000 payouts for the runners-up, and Brian Weikle cleared a cumulative $50,000. (In fact, that minimum being in place probably helped Mark Dawson win; although Brian had the highest potential total, Mark's day 1 total was high enough that Brian would fall behind it on a cover wager and missed FJ, Eric Floyd couldn't even reach his day 1 total cumulatively, and his potential total was higher than $50k. With those factors in place, there was no reason not to bet everything, and it turns out he needed every dollar because Brian accidentally underwagered slightly.)
