I interpreted that as meaning the other female athlete connected to the Joyner family. Mayhap that doesn't help regarding Internet outrage. This Is Kirk! wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 1:03 am I bet Alex is taking some heat for his "the other one" quip regarding Flo Jo.

Re: Wednesday, December 12, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Home sick with a cold, this FJ didn't make sense in the fog of cold medications and lack of sleep. And I am a fan of the old series and Next Generation - but didn't remember anything about a twin planet to Remus so Star Trek didn't even occur to me and I figured it must be something newer that I had missed. I tried googling and apparently this was something mentioned in a few episodes so it seems most likely that the writers just assumed everyone would simply get Romulans from Romulus. So, a bit of a shady FJ clue but obviously one that people were able to get.
A very tough break for Andy - who demonstrated that sometimes too much knowledge can work to one's detriment (which sucks) - but Elana showed that you can make a late DD work for you. Maybe some folks will consider that standard $2,000 wager in similar circumstances?

Right. I think that's what Alex meant, but that doesn't mean people won't take it the wrong way.Woof wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 10:20 amI interpreted that as meaning the other female athlete connected to the Joyner family. It sounds awesome, I didn't know it was the subject of a novel(?). But ergs is a stupid unit and was chosen to sound science-y. The average American uses about 90 Kwh per day, which is a ridiculous number in ergs (3.165168e+15). And the idea of 3 peta-ergs just sounds creepy .Woof wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 2:38 pmYou more often hear of technocrats, but it's an easy jump from there to the form of government.LucarioSnooperVixey wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 1:42 pm

I would love a science based policy creating government. But, we have an idiocracy .

The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

34 right.
Lach Trash: Florence Griffith-Joyner, Brasilia
I went with the Vulcans as well, and didn't realize what they were going for until the end.

Never explained in canon, as far as I know, but the thinking is that those are just the human names for those races and planets.

I know you've seen the posts on the Jeopardy! Facebook page accusing Alex of being sexist and racist. Taken the wrong way this comment could be considered both. Flo-Jo was "the other" famous black, female track athlete from the '80s.jeff6286 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 2:07 amI still don't know what the wrong way is...This Is Kirk! wrote: ↑Thu Dec 13, 2018 12:32 pmInteresting. From what I remember of '60s lore, the Federation and Klingons were analogs of the western powers and the Soviet bloc during the cold war. Vulcans and Romulans were related alien species, and were analogs of Greeks and Romans. The Romulan/Roman parallel extended to Romulan ranks and titles which included Consuls, Proconsuls, Centurions, and Praetors.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

OMG! This is actually cool - I wonder how many Trekkies are woke to the symbolism? This stuff doesn't interest me, but I do like some of the wordplay and novel insights - especially the alien viewpoint that humans are ugly bags filled with mostly water!AFRET CMS wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 6:20 pmFrom what I remember of '60s lore, the Federation and Klingons were analogs of the western powers and the Soviet bloc during the cold war. That comment wasn't from a typical alien species. It was from sentient computers.twelvefootboy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 14, 2018 9:53 pmThis stuff doesn't interest me, but I do like some of the wordplay and novel insights - especially the alien viewpoint that humans are ugly bags filled with mostly water!
I spent the commercial break trying to think of all the sci-fi TV shows I could. I drove myself crazy trying to remember the show which spawned "Danger, Will Robinson, Danger!" Never did remember it and fortunately I didn't need it. (Had to look it up later - Lost in Space.)
Took me a moment to get off the Vulcan elevator and back to Remus' brother. I didn't know the Star Trek canon on that specific point, but WECIB?
