My first thought on FJ was Ayn Rand (which is about as antipodal as you can get) but when I stopped to think that a billion dollars is a carpload of money I ended up on JK pretty quick. I'm curious if there are any billionaire authors that do not also have film or merchandising income.

What other billionaire authors?

According to this list, #2 is Jim "Garfield" Davis at a paltry $800M: https://successstory.com/lists/top-10-authors-net-worth
This one drops Davis entirely (maybe "cartoonist" doesn't rate author?) and slots James Patterson in at #2 at $750M (compared to the other list having him at $310M): https://moneyinc.com/top-20-richest-authors-world/

Since Rowling's donations, the answer is no even before you even get to the latter half of your sentence.

... "Two Princes" (love that song)
It's one of those songs that can strike a memory for so many people in lots of ways.

For me it's pre-game music while the players warmed up when I attended IHL San Francisco Spiders hockey games at the Cow Palace.
san francisco team playing in a san jose arena? i guess not really different from today when you have a san francisco based nfl team playing in santa clara
The Cow Palace's address is in Daly City, right next to San Francisco.
i stand corrected...i knew that is where san jose sharks played their games when they first joined the league...figured it was in san jose

Heineken -> Amsterdam
We visited the Heineken Experience in March 2003, during the Iraq war. We bought tickets to Munich before the war started, and the airline changed our flights after Uncle Sam commandeered some of its planes. The result: an eight-hour layover in Amsterdam, which gave us plenty of time to visit the museum--which was where Heineken was brewed before production was moved to the suburbs in the 1980s.

Amstel wasn't a bad guess. The Amstel River flows through Amsterdam.

Fun fact: Measured by sales, Heineken was the #1 imported beer in the U.S. for many years before it was surpassed by Corona.

I'm old enough to remember watching the San Francisco Warriors on TV when they played in the Cow Palace. Also Roller Derby's Bay Area Bombers.

Heineken also produces Amstel beer.

Probably not. JK is the world's first billionaire author. I suspect she's the only one. That led to my instaget today.

I wish I could say that I got today's FJ right, preventing a shutout for me this week...

And I can! I might have heard of it before, but I was comfortable with my correct answer.

For FJ, Rowling was my first thought... but decided to switch to Stephen King.
King is certainly not a bad guess, as he has not only sold thirty bazillion books but also the movie rights to some pretty big-time movies.

I remembered reading something about Rowling becoming (either) almost as rich as or richer than QEII, which would not be surprising considering the fictional universe she created. (next book upcoming: Harry Potter and the dump truck full of cash).

I for one have never read any of Bill Gates' books, so maybe Greg knew something I didn't.

Another one-and-done. Sheesh.

Whatever else you can say about recent games, I'm certainly not picking up a bunch of their leavings. My only TSs tonight were the Gulf of Finland and Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Congrats to James, and let's see if he can close out the year by breaking the carousel and winning a 2nd game Monday.

Gates isn't a novelist though. I suspect Greg just wrote down someone he knew to be a billionaire so as not to leave FJ blank.

I had Rowling down immediately and Stephen King was the only other person I could think of that was a possibility, but he seemed like a real long shot compared to Joanne.

I didn't remember the clue being that well pinned. I thought Oman's exclave would allow Persian Gulf to be correct as well, but no such luck given the wording. I've technically been in Oman -- I drove from the UAE past the sign that said "Welcome to Oman", but did not go as far as the customs entrance since I didn't have a visa.

I'm just done catching up on shows missed over the holidays. I'm surprised we didn't discuss this response. Listen to it carefully and tell me if it meets your expectations.

Yes, I hear the s, though not at first - I had to listen with my ear near the speaker.

His response clearly crossed over with Alex ruling on it; the editors needed to crossfade, and something got cut.

If he'd said just "Expectation", the judges would have caught it and overturned it at a break.
