CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS

Alex: We introduced David Moo from Brooklyn a cocktail bartender. Does that mean no beer, no wine?

David: Oh, me, I serve all kinds of things, Alex--whatever it is that you want.

Alex: Okay, now you proposed while you were hosting a pub quiz?

David: That's true. I was the quizmaster of the local quiz in Brooklyn. There's five questions in each round, and for one particular round, some friends had gotten my girlfriend to come to the bar and the answers to that round were veal, jus, marry, moo, dawn, and then there was one special question just for her, and the answer was "yes."

Alex: You both won out.

David: Yes, we did.

Alex: Way to go.

Alex: Megan Logsdon from Kernville, California, a member of an amateur belly dance group?

Megan: Yes. It started as a fitness class about five years ago, and some of us enjoyed it so much that we decided to start doing choreography and put dances together, and now we perform at community events and dance festivals.

Alex: Where's your next performance going to be at?

Megan: I don't know yet.

Alex: Just asking for a friend of mine.

Alex: John Presloid from Perrysburg, Ohio. Somebody in the audience, as you just heard a few moments ago, is from a neighboring town. Now growing up, you and your family watched "Jeopardy!" and not only watched, but you kept score?

John: Yes, every day, had a separate notebook just to keep score of who got how many questions right. I think I kinda kept score and they just sort of put up with me.

Alex: They put up with you because you were coming up with more correct responses than anyone else in the family.

John: Maybe.

Alex: And today, they're feeling really good about how well you've done.

SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
John: $11,400
Megan: $4,200
David: $3,000

No mention (yet) of J! on David’s page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Moo

John has demonstrated what is possible for a contestant to do if he or she can get by that first game. John swept the DDs for +12400 and yet David had a chance to break the lock on clue 60.

The FJ! clue is one that would have bugged me for a long time to have missed at home and would have haunted me forever to have missed on stage (if it had mattered game-wise). Fortunately, I can enjoy the weekend knowing I got the weekly perfecto.

When the FJ! clue was revealed my mind instantly matched Ryan Seacrest for a talk show host and host of #1 show in thinking Live & AI. 2000 took care of that while the jump to the right guy was immediate having already landed on the right talk show. Done with no doubt is always nice.

Not a bad week for clues hidden with only 2 not played. Keep it up all involved.

I wonder if
Spoiler
the reason Steve Oppenheim is playing next Friday is because they were trying to have John and he on separate episodes, but a Jacob/Blish event happened.

To me, FJ came down to Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh and I decided Stern being less political was more likely. I was surprised to see three different answers from the contestants, and yet another different name as the right answer.

There is a whole wonderful world of TV and radio out there that I'm missing.

Some names came to mind but I couldn't come up with the correct one. Another head-slapper by the end of it, unfortunately.

I think I'm 0/5 this week.

I wasn't getting Regis out of that clue. Decided to cater to the LCD with a guess of Jerry Springer. :|

There was nearly a second possible correct response to this FJ: Jeff Probst. Survivor followed Millionaire as TV's number one show in the fall of 2000 and Probst has guest-hosted Live! several dozen times over the years...but his first time doing so wasn't until 2001 (he even fits Alex's comment about competing on Celebrity Jeopardy! on a few occasions!).

Maybe it's my intensified interest in WWTBAM, but this was an instaget. I can see why people might not have gotten it, but the TS surprised me.

Instaget. 2000+top game show=WWTBAM. Survivor started that year, but it is paired with the emerging reality shows of that era (Amazing Race, Bachelor, etc), not the game shows (Weakest Link, Deal or Deal, etc).

I appeared on the #1 ranked show in 2000! Would like to think I could have answered this clue correctly under the lights.

The clue specified "network show", not "game show". Survivor is definitely a network show.

I, on the other hand, missed the fact they were asking about two television shows. For some reason, I was thinking one was radio.

John is a monster. I absolutely love watching him play, can't wait for Monday.

Flailed around for about ten seconds (Springer, Probst, nope) until something clicked and I hit the right guy.

Had a fun week playing these boards from home, scored significantly higher than my average every day except Wednesday. Not bad!

It's only because of repeated exposure to WWTBAM from this board that I got this FJ. I was going the Johnny Carson route but couldn't think of any moonlighting late night hosts. Like others, I also wandered toward radio for no reason. I picked Regis with low confidence and any one of the wrong answers wouldn't have surprised me.

Damn, John. You are timing the buzzer like Watson vs. the mere mortals. I feel bad for Frank (Thursday) and David getting carpal thumb shaking their buzzers while you make no visible motion. Alex must feel a good rapport with you, he doesn't usually goad one or two day champs to bet TDD's near 5 figures.
Disclaimer - repeated exposure to author's musings may cause befuddlement.

I know it's too early to talk about this for John, but how many ToC champions were in 3rd place heading into their very first FJ?

Dan Pawson is first to come to mind. He won it on a TS, too!
