I would be all for Matt's speed strategy in a regular game, but in a team game it's almost guaranteed to get to all the questions. :|
Good grief, a FJ that wouldn't be challenging in a Teen Tournament, let alone the All-Stars. :(
Elite was a surprising TS
Surprising betting. I would've figured that at least one team would stay high & dry given FJ tendencies. Mebbe they figured on a softball today.

Incidentally, the chapters given are 6 and 4 respectively.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

I think this is a pretty tough one, only gettable from the TOM which was phrased as "special", or something. The surprise to me was the last clue of the DJ, in the top box for the military unit. I think the 3 players had combat fatigue by then and were just ready to take a clue off.

This. I couldn't pin it down but this offends me. It's like when you hear the "you know" or "uh" in someone's conversation and then you can't stand to keep filtering it and you want to punch them the next time they say it  .

They should have made this a three day final with everyone playing one round.
Good idea!

But I am ready for this to be over. I just hope it doesn't turn on a mistake. I wonder if they did give the softball FJ to avoid train wrecks.

I got FJ easily, but only because I've heard right wing idiots
Spoiler
Mark Levin, Michael Savage, Mephistopholes,Goehring
on hate radio spouting about Sun Tzu (and Saul Alinsky, whoever the F that is). This and Ayn Rand have been flavors of the month but if you didn't pick up on them in their heyday, it is a tough get. Much tougher than the Triple Stumper (2 team captains) about the President. It wasn't a balanced clue like most FJ's in that there were no cromulent alternative guesses. Write it down, smile, wait for the reveal.

I liked Brad's enlightenment about the 3-1/2 hour shoot for the 10 seconds.

I thought the team bets were all perfect. Nobody wants to bet big and lose the opportunity to double up and catch up in FJ on a sole solve.

I would agree that these boards do seem a tick harder, but whether that’s enough for this lineup of players is, I suppose, debatable. I agree about this Kids Week FJ, especially odd after the last few. Overall, I’m still enjoying this tournament, but I’ll be glad to see it end.

The latter miss might qualify as irony, given the nature of the play. I nearly went to see that in December.

I was surprised to get Lach trash on consecutive clues (529 and elite) but then confused Dienstag and Donnerstag (should have known better). FJ! seemed easy for this point in the tournament.

I wouldn't necessarily want to watch this format very often, but I've enjoyed the living daylights out of this tournament. I can't root for Larissa, Ken, and Colby all to win so I'll just wait to see what happens.

Editing to add: I find Matt's failure to wait for Alex to finish speaking a bit off-putting on a gut level, but I tend to believe that it's a function of being intense and relatively weak at social timing as opposed to consciously being rude.

Looks like I'll be in the minority not checking the box for this FJ. I never got anywhere close. I associate "Ancient" too strongly with Greece and Rome. I wound up with The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, which I know wouldn't be it.

I wonder if strategically, Ken or Brad thought about trying to avoid the other and play Double today and Single tomorrow instead.

you never know...could be challenging for a teen tournament...i just learned of that book within the last 10 years from an episode of ncis: los angeles....though then again jeopardy teens are probably more knowledgeable than i am, so perhaps it wouldn't be challenging for that tournament

Yeah I got FJ right.

It was expected, but still good to see such a good game between the two top teams.

Even though Team Ken is in 2nd place right now, my prediction is that they will still win tomorrow.

I like the J! writers. British Literature? Insane difficulty. Ancient Writings? Easy pickings.

Also shoutouts to Juicy Karkass (don't Google that unless you're ok with NSFW)

Obviously, this was a battle of four Jeopardy beasts today. I was hoping for a different mix (Matt vs Brad? Larissa vs Ken?), but we all knew this is what we would see and it was fun to see Matt vs Larissa which lived up to expectations.

I always thought Matt’s quickness to get to the next clue was his way of wanting to make sure they get through all the material. While that is obviously guaranteed in this tournament, hard to just slow down when that is the rhythm you play best at. I have no big issues with it.

Colby? I was trying to think of something they could have done to throw a wrench into the game, but I just don’t know what that would have been. By knowing that Brad and Ken were likely to play the Jeopardy round, maybe throw Alan out there to see if his youth can win some buzzer wars? But Pam has shown her chops in these tournaments so I doubt anything would change things.

Larissa may once again find herself in a position to win a big match in FJ. If that happens, will her third time be the charm?

I initially went to Greece/Rome, too, until taking a step back and the correct answer came to be.

I think they used an easy FJ for day one in order to avoid making today’s game uncompetitive just from the answer to one question.

A search of the archive leads me to believe this is John von Neumann's first appearance on Jeopardy! Future players should note that Matt's pronunciation (von NOY-mahn) is more authentic than the von NEWman that you might think it is.

Re: the von Neumann architecture clue. Generally, Jeopardy! avoids repeating controversial statements (e.g., assignments of credit) in clues, or words such clues so as to obviate controversy, but that didn't happen here. Von Neumann authored the First Draft Report in which the von Neumann architecture was logically described, but the stored-program concept came out of discussions at the Moore School with Eckert and Mauchly and Eckert's magnetic calculator disclosure shows at least the central stored-program idea predating von Neumann's report. So a lot of people (Pres Eckert among them, I believe) think that the von Neumann architecture ought to be called the Eckert architecture. John Mauchly chalked up to the Matthew Effect the popular attribution of the concept to the more eminent scientist among them. For his part, von Neumann never did anything to correct the record in his lifetime. The merits of the various perspectives have been debated in the computing history literature for decades and won't soon (or ever) be settled, but it was unusual for Jeopardy! not to recognize that the controversy exists.

I agree. Seems like a good amount of standard game level difficulty, with just a smattering of more difficult clues. I'm sure they don't want to make it so difficult that Joe viewer sitting at home doesn't know any of the answers.

I embarrassingly missed this FJ. I read the question and immediately thought it had something to do with Socratic debate, so spent the next 30 seconds trying to come up with a title by Plato that fit. The Art of War was ridiculously obvious in retrospect.

I recognized all those celebrity faces EXCEPT W. Kamau Bell :(

Too much shade thrown at Team Colby by Alex

It's been an exciting tournament, but they need to stop giving money to Brad and Ken. I cry income inequality!

PS/ When Alex says Brad is in "show business", he means porn, right?
