My rule of thumb: If it's a science FJ, and I insta-get it, it's not a hard one.
pretty much my thinking when i instaget a science question

James did miss one clue tonight. Nevertheless, he probably got very close to the most correct responses in one game (I think Ken has James' 42 beat by a couple). Austin holds the six day record and yeah that's nuts he's close to beating that too. I believe all of your other stated records check out except for the SJ one.

I don't know what the SJ record is, but it's definitely not $13k. There are certainly more examples (even non-ToC players such as Dave Mattingly and Matt Hoffer-Hawlik have posted higher first round totals), but the highest I know of are the three (?) times Ken broke $16k, Matt Jackson's tenth game ($16,800), and adjusted, Brad Rutter's $16,400 in his ToC QF.
Yeah I know he missed one, it was more just a case of as I was typing all that out it occurred to me that would be an interesting record. Sorry for being ambiguous. Based on some quick research, Ken went 41-0 in his eight game but missed FJ. David Madden went 35-0 with a correct FJ in his fifth game. (He also had some other impressive no-neg games, his average wrong responses per game is far below most of his peers. I respect that.) Larissa went 29-0 with a correct FJ in her first game. So those might be some relevant records but of course its entirely possible some randoms have them beat.
I'm done. Abandon all hope ye who enter here.

But I would imagine also:
-highest DD bet (Roger's $18k was the largest IIRC - and would still hold the record for the largest TDD in that case)
It is a record, but the previous record was Philip Tiu's 19K (and Bob Beers' pre-doubled 10K)

Well, that was one helluva beatdown. $13K for James at the end of the Jeopardy round, without even finding the DD! a big assist from the DD

First game in awhile where I paused several times to try and come up with the response before James buzzed in. I blanked on too many clues tonight, but to be fair, I did watch the show almost immediately after slogging through the online test

Does James have an Achilles heel? Maybe Ballet? Remains to be seen

What a thrill to wait for James to uncover that last Daily Double. I hate to kick someone when they're down, but Ariana crushed my soul by drifting back up to the top of the board. Sameer, at least, knew what he was up against but lost his buzzer mojo in the big money round

Spanish for inn? Hacienda, right?

I'm never going to remember the damn -stan capitals, am I?

"Happy Birthday...Bodger?"
"No, Booger."

FWIW the Daily Double was found on clue 2.

Sameer found it. James hit $13K without the help of a DD (right??)
Just read the recap. I really thought Sameer found DD1. I guess my mind was blown so hard that I forgot

He also broke Brian Weikle's 5-day total in just 2 games, albeit games 3 and 4 for him.

Imagine if James somehow lost tomorrow, and because of the long ToC wait, he somehow doesn't qualify for it since more 5-time champs will be coming up. Probably won't be the case but yeah. That would suck after this.

Matthew hit $10k -yesterday-, though he had the help of a DD. Mathematically, James did it without one.

TPTB have discretion to truncate the TOC cutoff period. If James lost tomorrow, I suspect TPTB would do whatever's necessary to make sure he's in the TOC. I mean heck, they're going to want him to eventually appear in supertourneys.

Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong, but there have been many, many times where someone finished the first round with $10,000+.

Indeed it will be interesting to watch, as James' opponants grow more aware of what they have to do to beat him. By the end of this tape date, there shouldn't be any caught off guard. The longer he plays, the more risk taking on DDs by opponants. He's putting on a clinic and perhaps it will have a long term affect on the willingness to bet big in DDs.

Meh. Did I miss anything? I'm pulling for the underdogs from here out. I do find James to be affable and charismatic.

This was not a science FJ. I have never seen the nomenclature of a "leap" in context of energy level transitions. Maybe the Brits use the more flowery term, "quantum leap", but I only know the metaphorical use from popular usage, and never use it myself. I deploy "step change", to accurately convey the attitude adjustment, or whatever.

In introductory physics courses, I've only heard the idea of electrons "jumping" between energy states (and emitting photons) as a way to visualize the idea of energy levels, and then you just devolve into thinking as transitions, without the graphic (and incorrectly intuitive) image. I will yield to higher authority on this subject, I only know the hillbilly version of quantum physics. Since everything is quantized (time, energy, angular momentum, length, mass, etc..), the idea of something "leaping" or "jumping" doesn't translate well. I at first questioned the qualifier "sub-atomic", but have used up my allotment of pedantry.

Go, toyotas!

Also, 110,914 seems somewhat random.
His daughter was born 11/09/14.
Here I thought he was paying homage to Roger Craig's previous record set 2010-09-14.

My daughter was born on a 9/14 as well. Every time we watch Jeopardy! together, she says, "I want to go to Jeopardy!, Daddy."

My son was also born on 9/14. He was very disappointed that Kids Week ceased to be a thing but is now trying out for the Teen Tourney.
