I didn't hear any snicker, so no comment about that.morbeedo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 10:47 pmI thought the same thing. Let her back in the game!! When Alex announced she was out of the hole but not on the plus side, someone's mic picked up a very audible snicker. What was that about?MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:14 am 16,000 for James at the first break. Not too shabby. Katie was not heard from until Alex talked to her.
Adam and James were not about to take a nap with the remaining $400 clues to give Katie a chance to play the FJ! round. No mercy.
I really felt the pathos for the challengers today, especially Katie who hit a brick wall and watched her Jeopardy! dream die in a matter of minutes. I'm not enjoying the bloodbath
THURBER - nope! Feet of clay? Huh? The nursery rhyme? Not in a million years. Damnyouautocorrect went right past me. The rest of the material was much more my speed.
As for "feet of clay," I guess it helps to have a good working knowledge of the Bible. This reference comes from (IIRC) a dream interpreted by Daniel in the book of Daniel.
Interesting to me that you say you're "not enjoying the bloodbath." I have been as much in awe of James's run as anyone, but I share the feeling. After a while "dominance" is too mild a word. He starts to look like the New England Patriots playing against (pick you local high school football team).
No one seems to know how he does it. I mean, we all "get" that it's a combination of insane buzzer skills, astonishing knowledge base, and ice-in-the-veins wagering bravado. But having said that, I don't think anyone "gets' how all of that can co-exist inside one player and in none of the thousands of players who have come before.
I recall reading an eyewitness account of the German army marching into Paris (1940?). The witness said that, even from the perspective of a conquered nation, the troops marching into the city at first seemed impressive and awesome. But as the hours turned into more than an unbroken day of one uniformed battalion after another, his eyes just started to glaze over at the unreality of it, the seeming unfairness of it.
And please believe me, this is NOT to suggest anything unfair about James's run. Everything he is doing, he is winning fair and square. But it IS a bloodbath and it's so one-sided that the only question left in any game seems to be "how many tens of thousands can he afford to wager in FJ without putting his lead at risk (last night $40,000!!).
I am as curious as many others to see if he can challenge the seemingly unassailable records of KJ. But I frankly miss seeing occasional signs of actual competition on the show.
