CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS

Alex: If you want to get it right, do it yourself. Lorelle Anderson knows all about that. When she got married, she made her own wedding dress, correct? But that wasn't all.

Lorelle: That was not all. I made my dress. I made three bridesmaid dresses and two flower girls'.

Alex: Why?

Lorelle: Because I had something very specific I wanted, and it would've been far too expensive to do it--to try and find someone to do it for me.

Alex: Okay, good for you. It all worked out, I'm sure.

Alex: Hannah Pierson-Compeau, from Washington, D.C. We have a category about presidents' dogs.

Hannah: Yes.

Alex: You dog-sat a dog that hated Jeopardy!.

Hannah: He did. Any time the contestants would take too long answering and the buzz--the "beep beep beep" sound would--would happen, he would go crazy barking. He didn't like it at all.

Alex: [Walking to James' lectern] I bet you he hasn't barked when James has come up with a response, because James is fast.

Alex: You've become a celebrity now because of your accomplishments on Jeopardy!. Gonna be a lot of pressure on you.

James: Thank you. I appreciate that.

Alex: Is--no, in terms of your time, in terms of so many other things, you're gonna be recognized wherever you go. How do you think you're gonna deal with the pressure?

James: Well, I'm not sure the bookies in Las Vegas are gonna be as happy to accept my action anymore. But cross that bridge when we come to it.

Alex: Really? Are you on a first-name basis with the bookies in Vegas?

James: Yeah, they know me.

Alex: They know you. All right. I know you also.

TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
CHILDREN'S BOOKS $1000: A series of kids' books features this third grader with a rhyming name; her last name also hints at her many emotions

SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
James: $11,400
Lorelle: $3,000
Hannah: $1,400

As amazing as James was in once again setting the new 1-day record it could have been more as he failed to uncover DD1 when he had 5600 at the time. Even so $131,127 should be good enough to put the record out of reach for mere mortals.

The FJ! clue had me take the Hammer with no response. Ancient district for Greek capital? Don't know. Next. Bird surname? I brainstormed a quick bunch from falcon to cardinal and was not going to have the right one in the first run through. That left me next trying famous characters J! likes. From Holden Caulfield to Harry Potter none were working. My last gasp try was famous books with a decades approach and not getting out of the 1920s. Fail.

Well done by James and Lorelle to give it two hits. It should not be a secondary level for me to have TKAM as on J! that of course is always top deck. So much for watching those readings specials with Katie Couric on PBS doing me any good.

Ten wins for James. He must win tomorrow since no superchamp has ever lost at that point. 11, 12, and 13 wins being the last? Yes.

He may have won 10 games and set four new highest-score records, but I'm still not convinced that James is the "next big champion" that promo was teasing...

After some bad misses recently, proud of myself on this one. Haven't read the book or seen the film/play, but my thought process was basically Athens->what sounds similar to Athens->no, what A. name has a bird last name->wait wasn't there an Atticus Finch? Not the cleanest way to get there but I'm always happy to be on the right side of things.

Haven't had a chance to see much of his episodes, but just seeing things through the board it's overwhelmingly impressive what's going on right now.

James "only" wagered $11,914, $25,000 & $60,013 today. It's possible it could have been more.

DD2: James at 26600 led 3800 and 3000 at clue 14
James added the 11,914
Let's bump it up to $15,000

DD3: 44114 to the same 3800 & 3000 at clue 20
James added the 25,000

He could have had 47200 with the conservative higher wager at DD2 and accounting for the $5600 added in between the DDs.
Let's bump the wager up to $35,000 as even on a miss still puts him well above Hannah doubled

With the $2000 James added after DD3 that's 84200 for the FJ! round and he could have bet 73000 to be over $157,000

That's the aggressive though still reasonable path.

For hog wild then James goes all in at DD2 for 53,200 at that point. + 5600 gained in between the DDs for 58800 at DD3 would allow a $50,000 bet at DD3 for $108,800 and adding in the $2000 for the final ten clues of the round then $110,800 for the FJ! round. A bet in the $90,000s and he's over 200 grand. It's not completely crazy or impossible to imagine it as James could have done it.

Even wilder is when playing the fantasy game a step further to have James find DD1 with his 5600 at the time. That scenario has him winning around $250,000 for today's game. Who needs a TOC at that point?

James has demonstrated the necessary buzzer skill, knowledge base and betting bravery to take a run at $150,000 to $250,000 for one win.

New single-day record (he owns what, the top 4 now)?

Is it a new record for most money before FJ, and a new record for most bet on FJ?

What on earth are we even watching...the video game comparisons are appropriate: it's like we're watching someone who has mastered the game, and is just competing against himself to beat his own top score. One of these days, I would like to see his reaction if he missed one of these massive FJ wagers.

Once DJ ended and I realized he could bet SIXTY GRAND safely, I just shook my head. At this point, the best chance for his opponents is if he has an off day and misses ALL of the DDs, without enough high value clues to rebuild a safe lead...but he's 9/10 in FJ so maybe not even then.

Bird, bird, bird.....
...
...
Finch! Oh right, Attica!

For comparisons, at the end of game 10, Ken only had $341,158 (and won $50,000 that game). James is at $697,787. Not only are we at 2.045x the amount, this is insane. Could you imagine if there had been a wager bump?

Right now James is on pace for what a million dollars by the end of the Wednesday. His average makes it to over $837,000 by Friday if on pace, then $907,000 on Monday, $976,000 on Tuesday and $1MM in the middle of Wednesday's show. Woof.

Typo in the clue about rare earth metals - there aren't three Ms in "uncommon".

The show is starting to get boring. I recognize James is insanely good at what he's turned the game into, but I'm not sure it's necessarily what I want to watch.

Amazing. It doesn't even seem like the same game. Like the doped up Lance Armstrong vs the tour de France 20 years ago. Lkke Usain Bolt vs a high school sprinter. Like Ken Jennings in dominance.

So he's 9 of 10 in finals. What records are we looking for in final J? What is the record for most correct in a row?
