I've been getting creamed these last couple rounds. Looks like it's time to widen the knowledge base!

At least I'm perfect on math questions :geek:

Only 26% knew Oklahoma when given 1889 and “sooner”?

Color me shocked, but I only realized the significance of sooner after deciding on Oklahoma Land Rush, at which point the lightbulb went on.

Maybe people's radar was off.

I was in the group of simpletons who had Wounded Knee. Cavalry to battle was my thinking and 1889 was too late for Little Big Horn. Yes, the hint was there and yes the year should have helped. There is a reason I'm in C and I get to prove on a regular basis including my whopping 1 correct for the Friday set.

My .783 on DE shows I'm doing one thing mostly right.

Didn't even realize that about "sooner" until I saw it mentioned this morning.

Also, Radar is "radio detection and ranging". Not sure why "direction" is being accepted.

Haha. Must be. Can’t tell you how many times this season I’ve gotten half of a question right. Argh.

At first I thought I’d go for BWA but then wrote down detection and I forget what else for R

Sooner jumped out immediately and 1889 is now etched in my brain after a recent DD where the player pulled OK seemingly out of the air, but more likely from the year. Think it was Lindsay. Even Alex was impressed

I definitely did not pick up on the "sooner" hint in the clue. That was a clever bit of writing by the Commish. And I have probably heard at some point what radar stands for, but that was never going to come to me.

I was shocked at how low the get rate on museum was when spotted "nine" in the clue. I knew Pizza Hut, but I still would have guessed that that one would have played harder than museum given that there are other pizza chains that one could guess.

The fall back down to earth has been rough but I at least ended the week with 4 right and a win.

Well, I remembered 1889 was the year of the Johnstown flood. It seemed odd that it should have had a "formal" beginning, but I could see celebrating the people who left before the bugle call. I mean, that's pretty smart, isn't it?

Nothing to do with solving the question, but I don't like his use of the word "transpired". Sorry, I just don't.
I'm smart and I want respect.

I'm not in LL81, but, for those of you who are, this is a reminder that today is the Midseason Classic.

Also, FYI, when you let your subscription run out, your login stays active surprisingly long. My membership officially expired on May 14 and I had been disappointed because a 1DS in which I had wanted to participate was on May 16, but it was no problem. I assume I'll be switched to inactive status fairly soon; meanwhile, since I still can, I threw some votes to Q and W.

Missing Sooner cost me the tie, and dropped me a couple places. My DE has been great this season, and I've broken my record for ties and consecutive ties already. I've been floating near the top of a crowded Rundle, but this match did me no favors, especially since I lost to the player now in 1st.

Sounds like Little Bighorn might be a Year Worth Remembering.

Let's review this debacle:

1) Didn't RTFQ and answered Muses. D'oh!
2) Lost the coin flip on Domino's/Pizza Hut
3) Went with Distance and Ranging for the miss.
4) Of course my sole get was the hardest question.
5) Had no clue. Not my forte at all.
6) Totally misinterpreted the 'sooner' to mean soldiers who had essentially deserted. Went with the MCWA, which I'm leading my rundle in.

I sat out of LL80, and when LL81 rolled around, I decided to sit it out too.

I still follow along everyday, but in the middle of last week, I was finally dropped and can no longer log in. This wouldn't be a big deal because I can just read the clues on the next day, but now that Thorsten rearranged the site I can no longer follow along in the questions forum.

I've been in the relegation zone since Day 2 and have led my rundle in Correct Answers Allowed most of the time. My defense is over .700, but it's hard to win when your opponents average 4 and a half correct answers a day and you average 3 and a half. There have been only two match days where I got more right than my opponent!

Detection and Reflection here. The answer doesn't quite resonate with me, and these constructs and acronyms are something I usually latch onto. (my fave is still the old "TWAIN" term from computer scanner days, allegedly for "Technology without an interesting name". This is actually untrue, but still funny).

On the Mythology one, I rejected sorority and tried to make Pleiades work with 9 instead of seven sisters. Then I focused on "institution", and thought "gallery?" but didn't keep going down that path. Finally said "whorehouse" as a joke, but feel bad about the misogyny now  .

I live 20 miles from Indian territory. No problem with the Sooner clue, they are also known as 89'ers at least locally. It's probably the only civics they teach around here.

My favorite was the computer company NBI, which everyone said stood for Nothing But Initials.

I went with dispersion and return for radar...one of those things I thought I should know but upon seeing the answer I had not come across the definition before. Pizza hut was our pizza chain of choice so that was a layup, and the Pantera question was pretty much word for word from the Rock N Roll ML and a question I got correct on a total WAG during that ML so was not going to miss it this time. Those were my only 2 gets (Sorority for Q1 and Little Big Horn without really thinking/reading the whole question) but it was enough for a 4(2) - 2(1) win. My defense has been dreadful, and I'm second in my rundle is CAA which leads to mid-pack even though I am 5th or 6th in TCA.

Of course there are only 6 stars in the Pleiades noticeably brighter than the others.

And those 6 stars form the symbol for what auto manufacturer?

Subaru, which IIRC means Pleiades in Japanese
