Each player was on the board after three clues and the matched stayed very competitive to the end. It was nice of Emma to miss the FJ! clue or there would have been a lot of the "what if" game for her DD3 wager leaving her a little shy of the lead for the FJ! round.

Salomé did not play a DD and she could have used one to perhaps have had the lead for the FJ! round.

Brendan used 3/3 on big clues to take the title. The end of the DJ! round was exciting with lead changes.

Strange stumper of the day had Alex taken aback as well as me when no one could match the Mojave River to its state.

The FJ! clue had me only write the right guy although I did take some time to dismiss the two guys Emma wrote. The other old-timey name I had to swat away was Hank Williams.

And the bubbling 4xers breathe a little sigh of relief to hold their positions for another day.

YESSSS!!!!!! The giant killer loses.
You must be the only person who wanted to see Emma lose. She downed a historic player....I don't get why you want her to lose.

Checking "I matched Emma" in the weekly poll. Too much Arlo and Janis, I suppose.

And to Roadgeek Adam, naturally the James fans are going to root against Emma. They wanted him to go all the way.

It happens. People lose eventually on this show all the time. I think the post above looked incredibly unprofessional about it.

I'd consider myself a "James fan" I suppose, in that I was rooting for him to break the all time money record. But I'd say that led me to root for Emma rather than against her- I would have loved to see a rematch between the two of them in a ToC. Ah well, so it goes.

Thing is I've still been rather upset to this day that James lost and fell short of Ken's record, and what really made me upset was Monday's episode got leaked on social media last weekend.

It's alright man. A lot of people feel that way. Nothing wrong with that.

For Final Jeopardy, I was torn between Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie (and chose the wrong one, of course). Other than knowing the actual quote, is there anything that would lead toward one rather than the other?

I feel like I remember(possibly from this board?) Someone once saying that in certain finals, instructions are sometimes given pre final that simply a surname is not sufficient. Does anyone know or have any indication that this may have happened? I'm assuming simply Guthrie would not have been accepted.

I personally responded with Dylan, and am wondering if this might have factored in with Emma initially writing it down and then crossing it out. I admit this category is a blindspot for me but if the contestants were given any such instructions, it would certainly make Dylan a less likely right answer and might steer someone in the right direction.

Steinbeck to Grapes of Wrath, to dust bowl, to Guthrie.

Bound for Glory (1976) is a must-watch. David Carradine's performances aren't always recommendable, but he's spot-on here.

Steinbeck to Grapes of Wrath, to dust bowl, to Guthrie.
Thanks... that makes sense. Now I see that Guthrie was from Oklahoma, while Seeger was more New York based.

I agree, the post is a bit rough, though the pedant in me notes that there is nothing “professional” about message board fandom.

Still, Emma was a pretty good player. Folks are allowed to have their opinions, but do we need the glee toward such a talented player losing?

Of course, many in “this community” showed even less courtesy towards Holzhauer. Curiously, etiquette toward contestants is suddenly Very Important now that we have a non-Holzhauer champ.

Woody was inspired to write "The Ballad of Tom Joad" after seeing The Grapes of Wrath movie. And I think he wrote a fan letter to Steinbeck, although I'm not sure whether he actually ever read the book.

At least I give credit to Emma for winning her next two games after dethroning James, which is a Jeopardy! first. Previously, giant killers went on to lose their next match after dethroning the reigning champion. Also, I was especially impressed when she selected a high value clue first but stuck with that particular category going bottom up.
