If there is one name there you have never heard of in the answer choices, it is pretty likely that it is the right answer.
That's my reasoning for pretty much any sports question.

It's uncanny how often I can get questions right on HQ Sports by simply clicking the most unfamiliar name among the choices. (Or if the question has "NOT" in it, I click the most familiar name.)

I've won a couple of HQ Sports using this method.

Comments for the 9/2/19 show:

Are spoiler tags not working?

Leslie Shannon (at least it sure looked, acted and sounded like her) won $1,000 and faced Ryan to try to up her total to $10K. It was 4-4 and Ryan won when he knew to match "areologist" to the planet Mars while Leslie lost going with "rocket engines."

Congratulations to Leslie Shannon on winning $1000! :D

The questions today were pretty easy compared to other days.

Surprisingly, nobody mentioned that Snickers the horse was owned by the Mars family.

Unsurprisingly, nobody mentioned that Snickers was originally called Marathon in the UK.

We had "Petrichor" at my pub trivia a few weeks ago. It was multiple choice, but I knew the answer without choices as it is in the Battle of the Brains topic on QuizUp. After he read the question before he read the choices, I even said in a moderate tone "Oh, I already know this one." People around me looked at me funny and some laughed in despair. There was no doubt I was the only person at the bar who knew the word beforehand. The host was also very impressed with me.

I was a few days behind and just got caught up. I'm enjoying the show more than I had expected to.

On 8/29, a player was 400 points behind with one question to go and went with the expert. On 8/30, the same scenario happened and Sherri pointed out that the only possible way to win would be for the player to go on their own. I was a little disappointed/annoyed; if the player can't figure out that extremely basic bit of strategy, I don't see why the show should help them.

I think I noted the game play, and your post, at the time. I sometimes fast forward through parts, so I'm curious whether 8/30 was the first time Sherri (at TPTB's urging, I assume) made the comment about strategy.

Through 62 shows I'm thinking Sherri has mostly mentioned the 250-400 deficit situation as saying the player, "has to get it right on their own."

Comment for the 9/3 show:
Spoiler
Volunteer nurse during the American Civil War:
Annie Oakley
Walt Whitman
Florence Nightingale
The contestant:
Spoiler
very predictably picked Florence Nightingale for easy to see coming as soon as the question appeared. That was the perfect question for any of the experts to show why they are there on that side of the stage.
***********
I tried using two different sets of spoilers and funny to see the results of the attempt.

For Susannah, Brad in "Brad's Drink" is Caleb Bradham.

Somehow, I knew all three contestants were going to miss the "Twelfth Night" question.

Remember your Chase episode Jonathan.

Mark Labbett: New Zealand is the one you shouldn't go for. There are roughly 4 million people.

You didn't mention that both the contestant and the Expert missed Galileo. But why the writers decided to put Florence Nightingale as an answer choice to "Which famous American"? That is a mystery.

Leslie being on the show makes me wonder if there's any S&P rule regarding knowing the panelists. I know on shows like Pyramid, contestants who were friends with that week's celebrities were held off till the next week to avoid a conflict of interest, and I have to imagine she's friends with at least a couple of the experts. Heck, she's got the credentials to be one of the experts in her own right.

There is! I came to a taping as a potential contestant and got sent away because I had been on pub quiz teams with too many of the experts. I can imagine Leslie not having too much trouble on that front, since I believe she's lived out of the country for most of this century.

no need to go out of your way to try and make your comments not being spoilers...the title of the thread says "spoilers"...i know i usually only come in here after having watched all episodes...and if i do come in before being caught up on the episodes, i make sure not go to beyond the last episode date i have watched

Through all 65 games of Season One ending September 6th:

Appearances by Expert:
Ken: 34
Muffy: 34
Jonathan: 30
Ryan: 28
Raj: 26
Arianna: 21
Susannah: 14
David: 8

Wins by Expert: (Best during first three rounds to face winning contestant)
Ken: 15
Muffy: 13
Raj: 9
Ryan: 9
Arianna: 7
Jonathan: 7
Susannah: 4
David: 1

$10,000 wins by Contestant:
Josh: 6/12 (against Muffy) [4-4]
Jake: 6/18 (against Ken) [5-4]
Miguel: 7/2 (against Ken) [5-4]
Eric: 7/11 (against Arianna) [3-1]
Chris: 7/16 (against Ryan) [3-2]
John: 7/31 (against Ken) [4-3]
John: 8/1 (against Susannah) [4-2]
Sarah: 8/12 (against Ryan) [4-3]
Adam: 8/23 (against Jonathan) [3-1]
Alex: 8/28 (against Muffy) [4-4]
Diego: 9/6 (against Jonathan) [2-1]

Experts vs. Winning Contestants not leading to $10,000 win:
Raj: 9/9 (100%)
David: 1/1 (100%)
Arianna: 6/7 (85.71%)
Muffy: 11/13 (84.62%) [Both defeats were ties with the contestant getting the Ultimate Trivia Question correct.]
Ken: 12/15 (80%)
Ryan: 7/9 (77.77%)
Susannah: 3/4 (75%)
Jonathan: 5/7 (71.43%)

Comments: In 65 games there were no 5-5 ties. Sherri mentioned Season 2 and that Diego would return. Not great sample sizes to determine best expert to face at the end. More clear is tough to win against Raj.

Any expert want to share a hint of when Season Two might air? I enjoyed the show and well done by all of the experts and Sherri over the episodes.

game shows are weird about what you can say and what you can't say.

and in almost all cases, they are just like, "don't say nuthin'!"

The taping of this season's shows occurred this year.
