Re: Monday, June 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
It was just not Justin's day and he found out how playing Rohit & Sophia from one match can differ from playing Lucas & Hannah in the next one. Lucas applied constant pressure and by DD3 Justin's hand was forced.
The laugh of the game was in the Emoji category as Lucas had "criss-cross applesauce" for the cross-legged yoga pose.
The FJ! category had me wasting my time during the break to make sure I could sort through the Ivy League schools quickly or to make a South Bend detour if necessary. Nope, home court advantage and nothing to think about. Alex commented on perhaps Hannah being helped a little bit because of where she's from, but it did not help.

6/24: W2 vs. W5 vs. WC4
6/25: WC1 vs. WC2 vs. WC3
6/26: W1 vs. W3 vs. W4
Yeah, there is just not way of predicting these things no matter the tournament.

Re: Monday, June 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I didn't know that yoga position had a name. That one and "under the knife" both at $200 seemed a little obscure for the young crowd IMO, but I wouldn't object to their placement in a normal match.
I took "Italian dish" too literally on Kitchen for $200 and got stuck on pastas, since pizza is not normally served in a dish.
Took the donut on the Celebs category because I couldn't pull any famous Leonardos.
What was the TOM for London in Shakespeare for $400? That whole category was miles over my head.
I didn't have to do any actual math, but I still got only 1/5 in Algebra. Quadratic equation? Exponent has another meaning? Polynomial? Completing the square?!
California university named for someone? I got nothin'. California universities period? Uh.......... I still got nothin'. Just had a big ol' blank. I'm very familiar with Stanford, but it just wasn't there in my brain at all.

Didn't get to see it today because my affiliate aired a black screen for minutes on end. So that sucks.

Re: Monday, June 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Instaget FJ. Props to Justin for making the 100% correct play, shame it didn't work out this time. Lucas played well, congrats on advancing!
M: 22800 -- 18000 -- 16200 (1, 5, 6)
T: 15800 -- 20200 -- 12600 (7, 4, 9)
W: 14200 -- 21400 -- 21200 (8, 2, 3)
I'd imagine that separating those who played in quarterfinals plays some (primary?) factor in deciding these matchups, but yeah I find this mystery somewhat irrationally frustrating as well.
To add onto this, accounting for Coryats from last week (thanks OQ/TJF for the quick reference) we get:MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 11:30 am

Re: Monday, June 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
In the Archive I could not find an example of asking for exponent with that non-math definition. It's usage has been in the wording of the clues for the artsy side of things making it the kind of the thing that would not necessarily stick:Bamaman wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 8:50 pmNeither have I. I wonder if he focused too much on that part and got confused. If it had just said “this math term” without giving an example, I would have missed it.

Re: Monday, June 24, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The DD for Justin was a terrible answer. The math portion of the answer is exponent but the most common answer for the 2nd half of the question is proponent. I was as confused Justiin was.

Close, but one generation off. It was named for the -son- of the dude that hammered the golden spike.CasketRomance wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 8:09 pm stanford was named for a dude...same dude that hammered the golden spike
I'm guessing my answer of polynomial for quadratic would have been BMSed? I'm doubting it would have been accepted outright since it got used later. I also checked the archive for the wording and it looks like that clue got eaten...
And because I had to look it up...
ax2 + bx + c = 0 is the general form of this type of equation
I think my original ruling is correct...nerts.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
