Re: Friday, October 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Alex mentioned it was the 8000th episode.
3/5 in '90s NO. 1 HITS - I'll gladly take that and nice the category was completed.
DD2 was Kevin narrowly leading 10400 to 9600 on clue 8 and he went big with $6000. It did not work out.
Kara lost nearly as much on DD3 though worked the buzzer well enough to lead for the FJ! round.
The FJ! clue was a fail for me all around. Speed reading the clue I started writing "Don Q" before seeing enough to put on the brakes. Slowing down I processed "Syrian" to Arabic and wrote "The Rubiyat" to compound my errors missing on years, century, language, spelling, etc.
The game was easily an improvement over yesterday to close the week on a better note.

Well, I feel a lot better about my own miss now. (+1 for the Rubaiyat.)MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 11:04 am The FJ! clue was a fail for me all around. +20 games into Season 36 = 8000!
(With the priviso that we are counting episodes, not games, and therefore we do not need to worry about corrections for the "4,000th episode" clip show or the Watson or All-Star weirdness of breaking up games into multiple episodes.)
From the official website, a celebration of 8000:
https://www.jeopardy.com/jbuzz/news-eve ... 0-episodes
Challenge accepted, Jeopardy! Send me the episodes.166 and 2/3 days
If you saved every episode and sat down to watch them starting on New Year’s Day at noon, you’d finish the 8,000th show 166 days and 16 hours later, at 4 a.m. on June 16. (Yes, a day earlier if it was a leap year.)

Re: Friday, October 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Coryat: $26,600
36 R (2 DDs), 1 W--Missed "lingua franca" in favor of pidgin even though it needed 2 words. Only other neg was saying Van Buren instead of JQA.
FJ--No guess. Trying to associate some kind of literature with the Middle East caused my mind to go blank. Somehow couldn't come up with the correct response or the Rubiyat.
LT: peristaltic waves (said peristalsis, I'm counting it), St. Joseph (DD), names

Re: Friday, October 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Coryat $29200 (it felt way worse than that, but I had a weak J round and stronger DJ)
37 R, 2 W
1/3 DD. Guessed on the language one. Kicking myself because Molière was TOM and I parsed the clue incorrectly (read it as "speakers of two different languages")
Couldn't get St. Louis out of my head on the Pony Express one.
FJ Fell into the Rubaiyat trap.
Not too thrilled with how I ended the week.
On the bright side, I got $4800 worth of Coryat from material I've studied in the past couple of months.

Hope Arabian nights for FJ is good too. Didn't expect this many misses from the board (so far).
Better than yesterday, still felt below normal (or) lately the average has been very good.

For DD, I was trying to think of a word (still am, probably pidgin? -but I think it is something else)... Weakly blurted lingua franca. Surprised with the result.
what is Moliere TOM?

This was one of those where the correct answer came to me right away and I tried not to think too hard about it beyond that... allowing me to salvage a 2/5 week.
Re: Friday, October 4, 2019 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Ran 5 Letter Words.
For some reason I blank on "elephant seal" every time it comes up. I know too many types of seals and just can't sort through them in time.
Ended up skunking the 8,000 category. Also 0/5 in Adaptations.
"Easter" was HUGE negbait on Day for $200. Alex didn't specify that the correct response had to end in Y.
Magic Treehouse was my only NHOI in Children's Books.
I thought "Jigsaw" was obscure for the top box.
All but "velcro" in "Cro". Just couldn't come up with anything that was modern and had a "cro" in it. Almost WAGged "crochet".
Can't say that I've heard of Lauryn Hill before.
Syria? Something composite? Uhhh.... 1001 Nights? Yeah, sure, let's go with that. I actually said "Arabian Nights", but some English translations do seem to use that name so I assume it would be accepted.

Also, the average retirement last 8000 days? OK ...
I also think that 3 Oranges clue was grossly overvalued as written.

Instaget FJ. I didn't realize it was released in 1700; for some reason I thought it was older.
"Don't say St. Louis, don't say St...damnit". The Pony Express/St. Joseph connection strikes again. When's the last time a contestant got that right?

~22 years doesn't sound reasonable to you?

Just long enough to watch all of Jeopardy! at an episode per day?
