Derped up Let's See If It Pays Off. "Brother" + "animation" misled me to guess Warner,
Same here. Definite forehead slap when the Disney response was given. I did get "spinning wheel," though, perhaps partially thanks to Disney's Sleeping Beauty.

Impressive! Terrazzo hit me as a NHOI though I'd wager I have. I doubt the knowledge will stick this time and I'll be just as surprised next time. (Except, now that I've typed that, there's a whole Heisenberg observer thing going on.)

Count me in for getting Muzzle, Terrazzo, and crankcase. I couldn't define terrazzo beyond it being a type of tile, but that was sufficient and it fit the category. The time spent with my dad as a kid turning wrenches and fixing the family cars paid off yet again.

My scoresheet has a line through Dutch and a replacement of British. I quickly went with the knee jerk response, then took another look at the FJ category and made the change in time. I'm trying to get in the habit of reviewing my FJ responses when there is time to avoid costly errors. I think this is the first time that has paid off for me.

Spinning wheel was another quick one for me. My grandparents had a spinning wheel in their home when I was a kid. My siblings and I spent lots of time playing with it, though I never saw it used as intended. I hope one of my cousins ended up with it.

Coryat: 33,000
47 R/4 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: muzzle, gird your loins, In the Heat of the Night (DD)

Embarrassing miss of the night: despite having been a customer service rep for GM for three years back in the day, I negged with chassis instead of crankcase.

$800 clue in 4-LETTER PLACES? He didn't bet enough.
No way. At the time of the DD, Geoff had exactly twice Jessica's score ($15200 to $7600) with only three clues left to play and the LTAM warning already given. Wagering enough to drop to second place if he missed was an all-time bad DD wager. You're right that it was likely to be an easy clue (although J! isn't always consistent in their clue placement, particularly on DDs), but he took on a lot of unnecessary risk. I would've liked to see a wager of just under $3800. If he gets it right, he forces Jessica to get two of the last three clues in order to break his lock; if he misses, he's still in crush position.

By the way, I don't think this was necessarily hubris. Given that Geoff seemingly was attempting a MSBIW on FJ! but underwagered by $1000, he might just be bad at math. Double doh.

Cara also made a big mistake by going to the top of the board in the last category of DJ! with DD3 still in play. She had the chance to remedy her mistake when she rang in first on that clue, but she forgot the category and gave the wrong Napoleon island.

I deserve a miss for letting that one get away.
Yeah, I failed too, but thought the clue must be referring to a single vessel and said the HMS Bounty. Didn't seem right, but I couldn't think of anything else. Turns out the Bounty was much, much later (1787).
Yes, "set forth" led me to think a ship was indicated. I chose the Golden Hind, Francis Drake's ship. Turns out he started his circumnavigation in 1577. That may be a little obscure for an FJ, but the language was not leading me to an organization, though there's certainly nothing obscure about the East India Company...

That is FUNNY! Did you forget about the Cupholder?

Cara's guess of carburetor wasn't that bad even for a bottom box clue when you are spotted Positive "CAR PART" Ventilation.

It turns out my Mom was watching Night School on HBO today and just showed me the scene where the store blew up and Kevin Hart landed on the car. Oh well.

In that case, I've heard the word multiple times but it never registered. I saw the film version when it came out in '86 and a few times on video since. Skid Row is one of my favorites in the film musical world--just perfectly choreographed, shot, and edited.

Much how like I never knew what "siege" meant. Even if I did, that clue seemed very circuitous.

I remember the IM locker room at my college had a sign up saying "caution: terrazzo floor and grating are slippery when wet." (so maybe not the best place to install a terrazzo floor and grating?)
