Alex matched Eric with a Wildcats greeting: Image

First Box DD just to keep hunters on their toes.

DD3 was in the last box.

Eric led 19000 to 12400 to 8400.

He did -5500 while plus would have been 24500 and still no lock. Math under pressure does not always go well.

The FJ! clue had me match Claire for the proper title while Eric and Lucy had the extra leading article that does not matter. 1902 + "riverboat" = done as I was writing even before Alex read "deeper" into the clue.

Alex's post music remark had me scratching my head: "I have a feeling that for this final today the wagers are going to be most important in determining the winner."

Leader made sure he covered 2nd doubling up (plus a little extra added). Big deal. It's been done before. If Eric had bet 3300 to get to 16800 on the nose and Claire won with 16801 then the comment fits.

Another 3-piece ensemble for Eric who could have got the call after audition just for being memorable (if he did indeed have something like that on) wearing something beyond the typical contestant outfit. Whatever it takes to stand out within reason.

Would've been hard to resist adding the "the" to a response since the sentence would sound odd without it. Oh, and good wagering by Claire.

The clue's "this" is both the rest of the sentence (which includes a "the") and the novel's title (which doesn't). So I think the clue writers treated them as the same.

Didn't realize that Heart of Darkness was that old.

Didn't matter, as I had nothing.

Coryat: $38,800 (49R, 3W)
DD: 3/3
FJ: :(
LT: Rhoda, light heavyweight, liquid propane gas, Dvorak (DD)

Another good game, but this time completely blanked on FJ. I also never would’ve put Heart of Darkness as that old.

Years ago, when Swoosie Kurtz's father died, I felt sorry that the NY Times obit section failed to write the headline "Mistah Kurtz--he dead". Maybe another paper took their chance but I wonder how widely his death was reported.
I'm smart and I want respect.

I was 4/5 in four categories in J! round today.

Got all but the top box in both Santa Claus (completely drew a blank on Amsterdam) and Take my Rhyme (got disoriented and tried to rhyme with "rhyme" and not "take").

Conversely, all but the bottom box in both Stamp News and Stuff.

I found First Name Basis tough. NHO 3 of those shows.

Marshall Plan was miles over my head. Any reason I should know that guy was a Secretary of State?

Once again I struggle in DJ!, with only 8R 2W.

Deeper into the... heart... Heart of Darkness? I'll take it.

Didn't know how old Heart of Darkness was, but nothing else would fit.

Coryat 33800 (43R, 2W)
DD 1/3
FJ

Rare DD in a $200 square today! My fundamental misunderstanding of what the Marshall Plan was led me to pick East Germany for DD2. I jumped to Russia from 'Slavonic' and guessed Rimsky-Korsakov for DD3.

As usual, movie and TV categories killed me... I was happy to get 43R in a game that had both.... I really need to figure out how to build my knowledge with those categories.

Surprised to see so many not knowing this work fit the timeframe. It's one where Jeopardy! loves to put the year in clues.

To be fair, it's been mentioned once in 6 1/2 years prior to tonight, so it's not like it's been all that repetitive.

Yeah they must have fired the guy who put it in 10 times in the 10 year period that ended in 2013.

I said Smetana because in my head I had remembered that Czech Composer 1890 or later is Dvorak, and 1870s is Smetana.

and I was pissed when I was wrong

Isn't that just the male dress code at Sterling Cooper Draper Price? Probably doesn't have anything else.

Maybe everyone thinks it takes place during the Vietnam War?
