The Osiris-Rex probe has successfully touched down and collected material off the asteroid Bennu
"We're over 320 million km away from Earth at this point, and we touched this asteroid within a metre of where we intended to. So that's extraordinary and a real credit to our team," he told reporters.
Rocket science!

The coup failed.

(J! will probably ask for "F1" and "Bolivia" respectively, but LL might get more granular)

New Borat (Sasha Baron Cohen) movie, called "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm"
Based on articles, most high profile bit involves Rudy Guliani

Also, Kazakhstan has done a 180 and embraced the character, somewhat, making tourism videos with the slogan, "Very nice!"

Amy Coney Barrett was sworn in as the 115th Supreme Court justice, thus establishing what the Wall Street Journal describes as "a broad conservative majority" on the court for the first time since the 1930s. Justice Barrett is the fifth woman to serve on the Supreme Court.

End of a trivia staple: Rhode Island voters passed a change to the state constitution, removing "and Providence Plantations" from the state's official name.

Can't believe this hasn't been posted yet:

2020 Presidential election called for Joe Biden by all major media outlets. Kamala Harris to become first female, first African American, and first Asian American VP. Biden to become the oldest President in US history, and likely to be the first octogenarian to hold the office. Biden was born nearly 4 years before Bill Clinton, who preceded him in office by 28 years!

Biden will be the second President born in Pennsylvania (Buchanan) and Harris will be the second VP born in California (Nixon), and will have the westernmost birthplace of any VP (Oakland).

For the next appearance of the Presidential Middle Names and Vice-Presidential Middle Names categories: their full names are Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. (Robinette is his paternal grandmother's maiden name), and Kamala Devi Harris.

Chase Elliott wins the 2020 NASCAR Championship. He joins his father, Bill (who has one of the best-ever nicknames in sports -- Awesome Bill from Dawsonville), as the 3rd father/son pairing to win (Lee/Richard Petty, Ned/Dale Jarrett).

Also, this race marks the end of the NASCAR career of 7x Champion Jimmie Johnson. He'll be moving to Indycar next year.

2020 has surpassed 2005 for most named Atlantic tropical storms with the recent development and naming of #29: Theta.
And it might not be the last word as a 30th appears to be taking shape.

Hall of Fame NBA player and coach Tommy Heinsohn has died at the age of 86. Heinsohn was a fixture in the Boston Celtics organization, winning eight championships in nine seasons as a player and leading the team to two more championships as head coach in 1974 and 1976. Celtics teammate John Havlicek called him "the godfather of the city of Boston." Heinsohn later spent more than thirty years as the color commentator for the Celtics' local broadcasts.

He was named rookie of the year for 1957, and his number has been retired by both the Celtics (#15) and his college team, Holy Cross (#24).
