I tend not to consider such happenings as J!-worthy current events until a resolution has been reached, so that's why I'm posting this in the discussion thread:

President Trump has signed an executive order to ban the popular social media app TikTok and the group chat app WeChat from operating in the U.S. in 45 days if they are not sold by their Chinese-owned parent companies.

Exactly, because they were on TV; but if Gilligan’s Island was a movie and they did that, it would’ve worked!

Joe Biden has named Kamala Harris as his vice-presidential running mate for the 2020 election.

UPDATE: Harris accepted the nomination during the online Democratic National Convention, becoming the first Black woman and the first Asian American candidate on a national ticket.
I think we can add on to this that Harris has chosen "Pioneer" as her Secret Service code name (Biden will still use "Celtic" as his).

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has become the world’s first person ever to hit a net worth of $200 billion. For comparison, Bezos is personally worth more than Nike, McDonald’s, and Pepsi, which are all valued between $139 billion and $191 billion.
What I find interesting is I once read Bill Gates has given away half his worth, and he’s currently worth about $114 billion
Total game show career losings = $171,522

Maybe this goes here. MLB will be celebrating Jackie Robinson Day on August 28 this year (instead of the customary April 15).
I'm still not convinced there'll be a season. Week to go, but positive cases all through the league and states where teams are located...(Texas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, California...)
At this point, I think chances are good that the season will start, not so good that it will finish. I'd spitball the chances that they're still playing on August 28 at 10-15%.
It's happening. Props to them, I guess.

Here's Chadwick Boseman's "Black Jeopardy" SNL sketch. May he rest in peace.

Chadwick Boseman was an outstanding actor, and he will be missed by movie lovers. Aside from bringing a strong physical and emotional presence to his role as Black Panther in four Marvel films, Boseman established his thespian credentials with excellent turns as Jackie Robinson in the 2013 film 42, James Brown in 2014's Get On Up, and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall in 2017.

He currently appears in Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods on Netflix and is due to appear opposite Viola Davis later this year in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a feature adaptation of the August Wilson play that won the 1985 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best American Play.

He earned a Screen Actors Guild award as a member of the Black Panther ensemble. The film also was the first comic book movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

A bit of trivia: Denzel Washington paid for Chadwick Boseman's tuition to attend the British American Drama Academy at Oxford.

Boseman also earned a degree in directing from Howard University and studied African history at the Schomburg Center for Research in Harlem. His script for the play Deep Azure was nominated for a 2006 Joseph Jefferson Award for New Work.

I could definitely see that being made into a future clue when they do a “They died this year” category.

That #17 really is the kiss of death for Derby horses (so much for Tiz the Law and his 3-5) even though it was not a true 17 this time due to fewer horses, three scratches, and no auxiliary gate. Always gotta cover Baffert.

Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock dies at 81.
Saw him get hit #3000 in person at the old Busch Stadium. Met and chatted with him for about 20 minutes roughly a year after. Class act all the way.

St. Louis Cardinals great Lou Brock is deserving of the nine times he currently appears in the J! Archive.

Brock never won the MVP award, but he was nearly always in the running. He won eight Gold Gloves, had 3,000+ hits, scored 1,610 runs, and batted lead-off for two World Series-winning teams. In 1975, he won the Roberto Clemente Award, given to the MLB player who "best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team."

Most notably, in 1977, Brock broke Ty Cobb's fifty-year-old record for career stolen bases. His record would stand until 1991, when it was broken by Rickey Henderson of the Oakland A's.

On a extra-trivial note, Brock was the first MLB player to bat in a regular season game in Canada, leading off for the Cardinals against the expansion Montreal Expos in April 1969.

With all of the Lou Brock tributes don't forget to mock the Cubs for trading him. Brock and St. Louis won the World Series in 1964 while it took a bunch more decades for the Cubs to win one.

Seaver, Brock... Let there not be a third MLB great for some time making tribute headlines.

Former Mets fan, current Cardinals fan...sigh.

Factoid that I read on Twitter: Seaver faced Brock more than any other hitter.

Anecdote: Seaver was young and rather baby-faced in the 1967 All-Star Game. When he walked into the clubhouse, Brock said, "Hey kid, get me a Coke." Seaver replied, "Get your own (expletive) Coke!" Apparently, they laughed about that for years.
