Getting better on the Confederate sub. Knew it was something like Hunsley, but couldn't convince myself it was Hunley in time.
Slake.
10/10 for the tournament.

I said Weimar Republic on Monday; Prussia didn't cross my mind as a possibility until my dad said it (and even then I didn't find it plausible). Speaking of which...

I first thought of Alaska and Hawaii on Tuesday, and then when my dad said Alaska and Washington I reluctantly switched. I'm claiming prerogative to call it a get within in-game circumstances.

I said "slake."

Never heard about Lawrence of Arabia/motorcycle accident. Not missing that one ever again.

Have always guessed Merrimack for Confederate sub and gotten stung every time. Put some extra effort into knowing the difference, now I think I've got it.

Said quench and was stunned there was any other answer.

Coulda, shoulda had a third consecutive five-for-five FJ week, but I outthought myself on the Capt Cook clue by having the right answer to start with and then crossing it out when I got sidetracked.

Hunley was instant. Monitor was a reasonable guess for someone familiar with the appearance, since it resembled a submersible with decks awash and the bulk of the ship was below waterline, but Merrimack did surprise me.

Side note -- it's listed in the poll as a $2000 clue, but was a $1000 clue in the Jeopardy round.

The easiest thing to remember is that the Merrimac was not a sub, it was an ironclad.

That was the key fact that eluded me from my 7th-grade social studies class...

Spoiled on slake vs. quench. I suppose I'd have picked one or the other.

Not perfect; missed the most missed of last week's.
