Players today would know the superheroes title, but not the Emma Peel show. :(

TAKING A "SELF-D" $600: I’m not touching that martini, even though I’d really enjoy it; I’m practicing a bit of this

This seems like the kind of clue where either Alex has more than one response on his card or the judges may have had to assess an unexpected response on the fly. As played, the contestant was correct and the game moved along.

The FJ! category had me try one precall of Robert Peel.

The FJ! clue had me take the Hammer with no response. Burbank, Fleming, Doyle, Carroll, Mendel, Pasteur... They were all no good for years and/or nationality and I did not have the right guy on my radar at all. Nice double solve by the players.

Zach seemed quite comfortable at the champ's spot once he got his game going.

Steve being a teacher had me wondering if he, or one of the other teachers in regular play in 2020, could have been the alternate for the Teachers Tournament and got an upgrade (or is it a demotion?) to regular play?

Done a lot quicker today: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6695

1 media clue, under 10 W and under 10 TS. I'll gladly take it.

Came up with
Spoiler
Darwin
right away, then tried to go Marktiple choice, for some reason thought maybe it was
Spoiler
Lewis Carroll
and flipped a coin which landed on the wrong side. The worst kind of miss: talking myself out of the right answer.

I said Lister. Only other good guess I could come up with was Gray. (Think Gray's Anatomy)

I had Luther Burbank for FJ. He isn't even British. Darwin never came to mind.

FJ! was an instaget for me, though my lack of knowledge may have helped. I just saw “Late 19th century British biologist” and immediately locked in on Darwin. Never considered anyone else.

Something I've learned over and over about FJ, but failed on today: if nothing in the clue leads you away from the obvious answer, it's the obvious answer.

Did anyone else enjoy the synergy between the last two clues in "Three Names" and the two categories to its right?

:D :D :D on Daily Doubles
Took a bagel in Home Improvement but ran Catholic Nations & Military Jargon.
Disappointed that Classic Rock wasn't finished, but ending DJ on a Neil Peart tribute was wonderful. 8-)
I'm just not connecting on FJs this week. :? Thought of Salk, figured he was too recent, thought of Pasteur, figured he was French, and I was not getting Darwin out of that clue. :(

Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark sounds like it could be biology...but his academic works were on mathematics...Like others I just went with the most famous 19th C. English biologist... :)

I like that better! Self-deprivation also works.

From Zach's law firm web site: Zachary J. Newkirk focuses his practice on voting rights litigation, representing clients opposing restrictions on the right to vote.

I am now a big fan.

FJ wasn't an instaget, but I came up with Darwin pretty quickly and couldn't talk myself out of it.

Coryat $35,600 (42R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ :( :x

I hate when I talk myself out of the right answer on very gettable FJs. First time it's happened in a while, so I guess I'm making progress...

NHO burpees or plyometrics. My response when the burpee clue came up was "WTF is that even?" but I wouldn't have buzzed in so I didn't count it as a neg.

I wouldn't put it that strongly, but as there can be only obvious answer but many non-obvious ones, the odds favor the obvious.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Steve's incessant sighing and eyerolling every time he had to pick a clue was incredibly annoying. It's only a rule of the game, stop treating it like it's SUCH A CHORSE to pick those damn clues...

====

Ran Food of the Gods.

"This Old House" was the only title I recognized in Home Improvement on TV.

Any reason I should know what season National Hangover Day is? That clue seemed wide open.

"Got your six" and "show your true colors" were the only Military Idioms I recognized.

Another dismal DJ! with 7R 1W.

Not even the faintest of a guess on FJ! What was the TOM anyway?
