Opus was hopeful there would be a discussion thread for these old games coming up, so here it is.
J! was quite different in S1 as Alex had to settle into the role. Double digits clues not played, DDs not found, double digit incorrect responses...
You'd never guess J! would be heading into S37 when watching early games.
The FJ! clue in today's case is one I'm sure I got the first time I watched the show and even though not writing my responses back then I would not be surprised if I took a short cut of initials + Day.
J!13 had Greg with a correct response, but he did not get credit for it on the scoreboard. The Archive marked it as ERRATUM and the scores/stats reflect what the show had for him. You can add $100 at the appropriate places if you choose. For the summary above I went without the true numbers.
There are multiple times in the Archive when the show workers did not quite accurately keep up with player scores and what was displayed turned out to be off when the games were archived clue by clue.
One weird thing I noticed: the writers seemed to think that THE CALENDAR was a fascinating FJ! topic - clues that could have been in that category came up three times within the first four weeks of the show, according to the archive, and I don't think any of them would pass muster today (even accounting for today's clue being markedly easier).
Oh, yeah, I forgot that part. I'm rusty. And apologies to Archivists for jumping the gun and not waiting for the opening thread start as I did not know that the opening placeholders would matter for old games.

As expected there is a new Alex opening as he explains the S1 rules about ringing in after clue revealed.
When this episode was rerun in 2009, the inclusion of Alex's current-day remarks made it necessary to edit out the interview segment. How about this time?

The interviews were there, including Greg's balloon trick.
Something I noticed when watching today's rerun of this episode is that they didn't show the part before Final Jeopardy! where Johnny announced the prizes for second and third place (for this episode, second place was a trip to Palm Springs and Skyway Luggage and third place was his and hers Wimbledon tennis rackets). I think this will happen on every episode this week except Friday, since they are showing game two of the 10th Anniversary Tournament finals.
I also notice they cut out part of Alex's opening explanation held over from the Fleming days, where he explained that "when you hear this sound-- <ditditditditditditditditditditditdit>-- it means you are out of Jeopardy!".
EDIT: They're also fading quickly into the commercial breaks instead of the long shot pulling back to a wide of the full set typical through the mid-'90s.

All three contestants took shortcuts in their FJ answers that would be very risky to do today. Two of the candidates wrote bday and the champion left out day or birthday altogether. Can you say you're a hundred percent certain that all three of those responses would fly today?
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.
