Re: March Madness
I picked Hawaii beating Cal as my biggest upset of the first round, and it came out today that Cal's leading scorer broke his hand in practice and is out for the tournament.
I like that pick now.
I like that pick now.

Oh, Yale. I was only joking about picking you, you weren't actually supposed to win...

Re: March Madness
Austin Peay lost to Kansas, which was expected, but that school has my favorite anecdote about college basketball.
In the 1970s, Austin Peay managed to recruit a New York high school standout/streetball legend named James "Fly" Williams into their program. The cheer that went up during their games was, "the Fly is open, let's go Peay!"

I'm a bit concerned about how more people have Michigan St winning it all than any of the one seeds :/

They're staying in it, but Carolina probably has the bodies to pull ahead in the second half.Holocene Hero wrote:DUNK DUNK CITY9021amyers wrote:I think a 16-seed is going to win this year, but I can't gain the courage to pick one in my bracket. I haven't seen much of Oregon this season; I wonder if they'll be able to quickly figure out Holy Cross' 1-3-1 zone.

Do me a favor and root for the Roadrunners. My hometown team has gone from perennial D-II contender to WAC tournament champion in just ten years, but they'll need all the help they can get against Oklahoma.SlickRick87 wrote:I'll be going to a couple of the games tomorrow. Oregon State (go Beavs!!!)/VCU and Oklahoma/Cal State Bakersfield.
Oregon State is making their first appearance in 25 years and less than a four hour drive away? Hard to pass that up.

Re: March Madness
When the NCAA started the First Four, I thought that forcing a team to play an extra game to enter the field as an 11 or 12-seed was going to decrease the frequency of upsets in those first-round games. I was wrong: every year, it seems like a team coming out of those First Four games enters the bracket out to prove the selection committee made a huge mistake.
Wichita State is playing angry, and Arizona is finding out exactly what happens when a team of that caliber walks out of the tunnel with a chip on its shoulder. (I thought Wichita should have been an 8-seed; they're looking even better than that tonight.)
EDIT: It turns out that "Play Angry" is the unofficial motto of Gregg Marshall's Wichita State teams. Very apropos.

Had a feeling I shoulda picked a 5-12 upset, though Yale wouldn't have been my choice. If my bracket can't win, then GO DUCKS!

I knew I should have picked Indiana over Chattanooga.
But more importantly (at least to me), the women's tournament starts tomorrow.

Re: March Madness
I forgot USC's coach is married to a pin-up girl. His team choked the game away against Providence, which is good for me because I picked Providence to win, but I could have done with another game of gratuitous shots of Mrs. Enfield in the front row.

Re: March Madness
That 15/16 day yesterday was amazing, but it looks like my prediction of Syracuse continuing their late-season collapse is not quite coming to fruition.

Re: March Madness
For me personally, an upset this big would be so worth getting my bracket busted. Plus, everyone in our league has MSU going in the F4, so game's not over if Middle Tenn pulls this offxxaaaxx wrote:Go away, Middle Tennessee State. Please

Re: March Madness
The first thing I do each year in filling out a bracket is to put MSU in the Sweet 16. I thought USC played like idiots down the stretch last night. The Spartans are not playing well either. 29.7 to go.Holocene Hero wrote:For me personally, an upset this big would be so worth getting my bracket busted.
