Congrats to erstwhile boardies Schliemann, AP, Lampy, Coelacanth, NoName84, Rex Kramer, KingRat, SwanShadow, gftt and OlSchoolChamp and current boardies ElendilPickle, MrBungle, Teapot37, CatHammarskjold, Jeff6286, bomtr, Qball and boson for all making the cut on this LLRC. I was totally chuffed to make the cut this year after narrowly missing it last year on some bad moneying decisions. I fully expect my 10/12 with ideal moneying in R2 to stand for a long time as my personal best, but it was all downhill from there. Many congrats to ElendilPickle for the best showing by a current boardie, unless AP shows up to make a liar of me

I went 8-6-5-7. This was the easiest championship yet; 2018 sticks out as the hardest by far.
It's amazing how many top finishers only had lifetime QPct's around .700-.750. Others who finished at the bottom after the first two rounds were closer to .900. I wish we could see how everyone, not just those who made the cut, did after all four rounds.
Hoping for a third lap

I was mister consistency with 8, 8, 8, and 7 right for scores of 284, 287, 286, and 315. I'm sure I would have done worse under the stress of actually competing, but I'm happy with that (simulated) performance.

Congrats to all the boardies who competed!

I went 8-6-4-6 and needed a late scoring change to get me over the cut line, which was really my goal. Had a couple of bad money decisions in hindsight, but it’s always going to be that way.

8/10/5/5. A really good round 2 (except for the missing 'for' in 'For better or for worse') got me above the cut. My moneying was poor - missing at least one moneyed question each round.

11/8/5/8. Several bad coin flips cost me - I have trouble remembering which of the two Johns (Wesley and Knox) is Presbyterianism and which is Methodism; Windsor v Cambridge; Nyasa v Tanganyika. Went straight to cayenne without even considering any other capitals. Too specific in saying Stradivarius violins.

I was very proud of myself for digging out "nuts" in round 4. I hadn't heard that fact before but I was able to puzzle it out after a few minutes think.
Not many people can say they've lost four times on Jeopardy!.

That was the one I had to think about, too. I remembered there was a coffee brand with a strange name I always wondered about, but it took a couple minutes to pull "Chock Full O' Nuts" from the memory banks!

Was anyone else given credit for "Crystal" on the Riedel question? I was happy to see Thorston's leniency for that answer.
I did; all I could think of was Swarovski, which I knew wasn't right, but I figured maybe Riedel was a competitor. The name sounded so familiar, too, and when I saw the answer I realized that I have seen and used Riedel glasses several times.

Thanks! This is my first championship so I was just hoping to make the cut, and I am still really tickled to have finished so well. A couple of bad moneying choices (not moneying Cambridge and a couple of others) meant that I could have finished higher in the standings!

Reading through these pretty quickly as TIA revealed them (not taking the full 10 minutes), I managed 9, 6, 6 and 5 for sure, with several mightabeens.
MD1: might have worked out Cheers, but on first read I assumed the show from 1982 was still on the air.
MD2: might have worked out habanero or dredged up Moms Mabley.
MD3: might have WAGged Dungy--definitely thought of him.
MD4: had Miquelon and might have pulled St. Pierre, and maybe convinced myself that Cher song could have come out in 1971, as I'd have sworn it was a couple years later.

Anyone remember the LL Q that asked about Cher's swarthy trilogy? I can't find it among Pop Music questions or in the School of Rock ML, which I think it predates.

Looooved working out Chock Full o'Nuts.

Incredible showing from so many boardies!

FTR, I went 8-10-7-3 with only a few regrets. I totally missed the significance of the 85 in N95 in round 1, overlooked Tony Dungy for Dan Reeves (who did win as a player but never as a head coach despite 11 appearances) and had a brain cramp with St Vincent and Miquelon (ironic in light of yesterday’s miss). Still, I’m reasonably pleased with the outcome.

Since the beginning of last season, I have gone: 3-1-0, then 0-6-1, then 8-1-5, 0-6-1 again, then 5-1-0 so far. Weird streakiness.

Having a weird season. I am third in TCA but only 14th in the standings. Probably doesn’t help I am playing terrible defense. They also seem to be defending me well. My best ever TCA score was 70 and TMP was 92, both in the same season. This time I am on pace for 75 TCA but only 83 TMP.

I had never heard of that island but got it right from knowing that Teddy Roosevelt won the Peace Prize in 1905 for ending that war.

My weird season is second in defense at .843, tied for 20th in TCA and tied for last in CAA. All good enough for 6th place. I'm a point ahead of Ali Hasan while Jared Hall & Jim Coury are down in the relegation zone.
