I want to say he appeared on Common Knowledge but I'm most likely wrong as it has been a while since the show had new episodes. Probably I'm thinking of someone who looked a lot like him.

So apparently, the contestants are from all across America and not just from California.

We have identified Jay Washington in the group. There was also a contestant named Brandon who said he was a former professional basketball player.

Great set of questions in today's show. I only recall missing a few questions in the episode. The browed basketball player, the celebrity sisters whose name sounds like Fanny, and was one off with BTS with 8.
Elle and Dakota Fanning. Lots of credits between them and they've been famous since their youth.

Oh my goodness. What is wrong with me today. I negged with Olsen which I should have known it was not. I forgot that Dakota Fanning had a famous sister as well. This is what happens when you spend too many hours on your computer.

I have heard of the Fannings but had no idea what they look like. Never heard of the purse brand.

Totally. As her Wreck-it-Ralph character in full combat gear.

Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed the show. I adore Jane Lynch, and her puckish severity had me howling. The jokes were a bonus. The only thing I didn't care for were the rancorous exit interviews. A little playful trash talk can be entertaining, but some of those comments were too bitter for my taste.

Yeah, I have to agree with you there. But I have no doubt that's a producer egging on the contestants, and not their real feelings. I mean, honestly, you're selected to go on a national primetime game show - I would think you'd be all sunshine and lollipops that day in terms of mood, with a bit of nerves mixed in. (Well, maybe not nerves for the primetime game shows - they tend to select entertaining contestants, and often contestants with some form of entertainment or public speaking background, while J! is a little bit more straightforward involving "interesting" people who are also smart.) And every contestant knows there's a 7 in 8 shot they won't be taking home any money, so they can't be too bitter about that. So it's clearly the producers saying to the contestants, "Well, what do you think about so-and-so, given that he voted you off?", or, "What did you hate about so-and-so to make you vote him off?" They're trying to tell a story.

It's entirely possible that they were saying where they were originally from, rather than the California location where they live now.
The Tom Brady question pegs the filming at sometime after mid April, so this supposition might be correct, unless contestants are now flying and the filming is very recent?

I disliked the enforced meaness of the Robinson version of the show and found Lynch a better host. However I find the pace of play is too slow, so I will only be able to tolerate watching by DVR.

I'm Facebook friends with one of the writer/producers, and based on his posts, these episodes were taped in late August/early September.

I'm not sure why you would think a contestant would be all sunshine and lollipops and perhaps not nervous the day you go on a prime time game show. After all, this is high level competition with a lot of money at stake. So if you're sunshine and lollipops you're not interested in competing and winning the game. You're just happy to be on national TV.

If you're actually trying to win there is some form of apprehension involved and you're focused on the task at hand. No different than an athlete before a game.

I think the point about producers is right. Assume that the framing of the contestant's answer was dictated by the producer's question and instructions. If they say 'I think xxx deserved to be voted off, because yyy,' they're likely responding to 'Assuming it wasn't you who was kicked off...'

I agree with golf as well, though. Lots of adrenaline involved, then they're being interviewed right on the heels of a major letdown.

Solid review, though I don’t see the piped in crowd as a negative. A quiet studio when Jane tells a quip would make for awkward viewing.

I have always loved this show, and I am glad they brought it back in an attempt to add new content for the network.

Just like the original, the ultimate prize is nearly impossible to achieve. This doesn’t really bother me. The money that does get paid out figures to be decent enough. Without returning champions, you don’t go on a show like this to make life-changing $$.

I am left wondering what concept a network will bring back next. ABC has gone to town with bringing back the classics. Networks are finding that game shows can fill in some valuable hours with not much overhead cost.

Nice to see the show back. I watched the first episode, it was alright. If the show lasts long enough I will expect to see some familiar faces, from J! or other similar shows, on eventually. (didn't recognize anyone from the premiere)

My source for this morning's post was Comcast's Xfinity guide which still shows a new episode. Titantv.com shows the repeat of the premiere to agree with your listings. For a third opinion I tried nbc.com/schedule and that has new episode. Fox has a new ep. of The Masked Singer and CBS has Big Brother for new reality. ABC has a rerun of Shark Tank.

They all agree the debate will take up two hours of programming.

This article mentions the first 3 episodes airing Tuesdays at 8 followed by the move to Mondays at 10 starting 10/19. But of course plans could have changed in the month since it was published, and nbc.com being a firsthand source is certainly convincing evidence!

Here in CFL, there is no mention of an episode at all. WESH-2 is showing a local interest show from 8-9.

I was underwhelmed by the premiere, but this was a fun episode. Jane Lynch is sooo perfect in this version.

Surprised to hear so many calls for repeats. Jane Lynch's delivery sounds pretty clear to me.

The questions are not terribly difficult, but some of these players are just not up to the challenge. I felt sorry for the guy who missed the director of Selma and the first African American Secretary of State.

Craig, the first voted off, was on (the last season of?) syndicated Millionaire. He got out on a question about the object associated with the phrase "pulling out the stops." I believe he said locomotive instead of organ and left with $5K. Now he must wait at least a year before he can appear on another game show. Them's the brakes!

Fixed.

And I agree about the repeats being odd. If they have a monitor for the players to see picture clues, I don't know why they wouldn't just give them the questions on screen. It was mentioned in episode 1 that the players cannot answer before the question is completed, but at least they'd be able to see what's coming and if they read quickly, have a second or two to think before Jane finishes. Asking for repeats both hurts the team's chances and makes for bad TV so I can't see any harm in letting them see the text.
