Shoot. I was hoping that this would be the first reference to Queen's "Bicycle Race" in the Archive, but nope. there's one other reference, from 2011.

Anyone brave enough to guess it before the word "bicycle"?

Anybody who's seen "Bohemian Rhapsody" will instantly after seeing this late Brit's multi-octave range. Then opera would lock it in.

Alex mentioned that Scott is a published author. A little Google-fu indicates Scott co-authored Your MBA Game Plan.

If Lisa had solved DD3 (and nothing else changed) she would have had 19400 for the FJ! round and still lost.

With Scott at 6600 and Lisa at 13900 that was a big move for Carmela to risk 7000 on DD2. It was the place to take a shot as ALLITERATIVE AUTHORS gives you an idea about the format of the name and second box usually means "easier".

The FJ! category had me precall Scott would get it right as yesterday he came off as a music guy. My precalls were Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey, Smokey Robinson and Diana Ross. For fun I added one more, Huey Lewis.

The FJ! clue had me done with "late" & "multi-octave" before I even saw the rest of the clue which only added two more levels of assurance.

Posts on other forums with pessimism for that clue going 0/3 or 1/3 had me shaking me head. J! people do have to know some stuff to get on the show and the band has been pretty iconic and famous for many decades. Throw in a recent movie and this was a time to be optimistic about contestant success.

Another one...: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6855

No 4th podium win available though lots of high value trash up for grabs.

Thank you writers for not having authors $1200 as a FJ! clue as even with more thinking time it would have caught me.

Had lock for iron.
:D :D :D on DDs
Good Samaritan & Mammoth Cave were TS?
Would've gone for the showoff points in FJ by replying "Who is Farrouk Bulsara"? :geek:

Did Lisa really call the founder of the hospital John (no "s") Hopkins on the $800 clue in the J! round?

Fixed, thanks. My error not Lisa's or the judges.

Archive playthrough:

Coryat $40,400 (45R, 0W)
DD 2/3
FJ

My first DD miss in over a week - Bryn Mawr crossed my mind but I went with Bala Cynwyd because OBVIOUSLY it would be that. :?

NHO Kevin Kwan or Bill Bryson. Had a bit of trouble with the BE___ED category and the 4-letter synonyms. It's obvious that if I were to get The Call™, I'd need to practice those types of categories and get some good sleep the night before taping.

Thought I was hosed when I saw the FJ category, but I was able to keep my streak going.

I'm missing being able to watch the episodes! Fingers crossed, hopefully next week I'll get to start seeing them again.

I expected an easy category there but stumbled over the DD. I knew it was Hesse, but I called him Heinrich, thinking of Heinrich Heine, I guess. I missed 1200 and 1600 through not knowing them. All in all, not such an easy category.

I remember Mercury died just about Thanksgiving, 1991 (not that he'd have been celebrating). I'd say that puts him on the early side of late.

Brynmawr, Wales is actually more populous than the one in Pennsylvania. 5530!

It sounded to me that she said Hunger Game, without an “s”. I listened to it twice and heard it singular both times.

I also had a lucky guess on Continental Divide. Another guess on Herman Hesse.

Music is way out of my wheelhouse but this was an instaget.

Yep. Didn't even need to get to bicycle.

If we did a poll, there would be lots of votes for "I thought of Bryn Mawr, so that's what I said" and lots of votes for "Didn't think of Bryn Mawr so I said something else or clammed". Then there would be one vote for the third option.

Focused on "operatic" and realized too late that this meant someone who wasn't an opera singer. So I went with Dame Joan Sutherland. The Australian.

What was the TOM for New Orleans on Hospital for $200?

I just couldn't get it going in the 4-Letter Synonyms, getting only $800. Don't know why, but they just weren't clicking. Can't say I've heard of "perk up" to mean anything other than "wake up or rouse"; I don't see how "manacle" or "rigid" match to "iron"; and just plain brainfarted on "monk" and "cure".

Got the top two Blockbusters, no idea on $600, stupidly said Pixels and A Clockwork Orange on the bottom two.

Once again, conflating Yellowstone and Yosemite costs me a run.

Also couldn't figure out that nephoscopes measure clouds since I read it as "nephroscope" and was trying to figure out how kidneys could be fluffy.

0/5 in weapons. Once again, they just weren't clicking. Didn't know there was more than one type of bow, blanked on sword, and thought that tomahawks and hatchets were totally different things from axes (in the same way that I think of Doritos as their own thing and not tortilla chips).

No exaggeration, I got NOTHING right in DJ! That board was brutal.

Lach Trash: Good Samaritan, Mammoth Cave

I find Freddie Mercury's smug, strident, melodramatic delivery to be absolute nails on a chalkboard. I would rather shove a power drill in my ear canal than listen to Queen. I have never gotten a band's appeal less in my life. (Seriously, someone explain to me their appeal...) That still didn't stop me from insta-getting this off just "multi-octave range".

Bala Cynwyd didn't occur to me, but I did consider Pen Argyl before remembering Bryn Mawr.

“AR” is not an abbreviation for “assault rifle.” I’m not surprised they accepted it, but I think the judges were going for the more generic “rifle.”

No BMS on “Jumanji”?

In college, I was a DJ on the radio, and the station was a regular commercial station in the market. Our Music Director got invited to Queen's after-party back at their hotel and took me along. We figured we were about to witness all sort of debauchery -- groupies, drugs, who knows? So we get there, and the members of the band (Mercury included) are eating from a sit-down buffet with their wives and girlfriends. They were sitting at their tables chatting quietly among themselves. Awkward. We did talk to them for a little while and they were all prim and proper English types (to us, at least). We then skedaddled pretty quickly totally disappointed.
