5/5 on FJ! for me this week!

Poor Chris.

Carmela reminds me of MacKenzie with her aggressive DD wagers.

The ghost of Merv must get a royalty for Jon's Hebrew school singing to the tune of the theme?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! had the players as old people with their lights off, not giving out candy as they went to it last and left two clues not seen. Boo!

Those who want to judge with an iron fist will have a field day with MOVIE SEQUELS responses and an alternate response for DIFFER BY A LETTER. Each one was fine by me as long-time viewing helps. Newer viewers may have pitchforks out.

At DD3 on clue 20 the scores were:

Carmela 13800 (after gaining 5K on DD2 five clues earlier)
Jon 11600
Chris 8200

The game then fell apart as Jon lost 4000 on his DD wager and more negs (including missed phraseology) by the guys set up Carmela for the runaway. Very weird finish.

The gentlemen then both solved the FJ! clue while Carmela missed it to set up many points of regret for the guys.

The FJ! category had me with little inspiration other than, "I Like Ike" and fun giggles, "Sit on it" from Happy Days set in that decade.

The clue had me stumped on first reading and I wrote the color of Carmela's response. Before I could finish it I thought I may as well run some colors. Blue? Nothing. The next primary color gave me the wonderful aha moment of a cross out to correct while making sure I did overlook something with "pinko".

Carmela made it to next week even though her path was not smooth. A big DD bet and fewer negs were enough for the title defense.

Was 80% sure it was "red scare" with the other 20% going to "red menace". I imagine the clue was pinned to the accepted response.

Thanks, Andy. No mention of "menace" there. I see one poster to your site thought up "menace".

Week 7 complete: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6856

Have of the Lach Trash value can get you a 4th podium win and you can even miss the FJ! clue and win from the 4th podium as there is enough available to be above Carmela's 14200.

Nice timing with "The Child" clue as S2 starts today.

Archive playthrough:

Coryat $32,400 (40R, 1W)
DD 1/3
FJ

A forgettable way to end the week. I found these boards really tough, they did not jive with my strengths at all. Negged with "Horatio Hornblower" on Lit $2000 as I saw "CS Forester" and stopped thinking. Big Ben did not cross my mind when I needed to come up with a bell, nor did I know it had ever cracked, and I was stuck thinking cave -> someplace for *alcoholic* drinks??? uggh... not a fan of wordplay DDs.

50/50 between scare and menace. I went with menace, which I thought went better with with ongoing hysteria.

I think this was not a great FJ, given there are at least two reasonable answers and no one would know the book review referenced.

Knowing what DNA stands for is on the top row. Knowing what John Marshall did was on the bottom row.

Was a BMS really needed on Marshall’s job? Saying he was a SCOTUS Justice wasn’t wrong.

Bad phrasing cost Chris the win, but them’s the breaks.

For FJ I was expecting something like cat’s pajamas or bee’s knees but I got to the right phrase in time.

I have no problem with the latter, but a big problem with the former. If they ask for the sequel you should name the sequel. I don’t care if this has been allowed for years (or as recently as yesterday). The Terminator response was fine because I think they were asking for the character, not the movie title.

"In the Spanish language version of this 1991 sequel, the title character ..."

They wanted the sequel.

Thanks for correcting my memory. So she should have been negged for that one also.

Carmela bet $7000, or 59% of her total, on her first day DD
MacKenzie bet $13000, or 94% of her total, on her first day DD

One of those has quite a bit more juevos than the other.

Instaget Final for my first brag box on the boards!

He didn't really get a BMS. Alex hesitated, and Chris smartly volunteered his more complete response. It was an amusing moment....Requiring Marshall's specific job is not unreasonable, but we can't be sure how the judges would have come down on Alex's hesitation.
I couldn't remember the Anchorman sequel subtitle, so I just said Anchorman, and "sequel" was in the clue, and since they didn't require the subtitle I'm keeping it...though I suppose it could have been Anchorman 3...
Since the players couldn't identify "hep" at the beginning of the game I despaired of their getting "Phrases of the 1950s" at the end. But 2 of them did all right...even though the clue itself pointed out that the phrase didn't start in the 1950s. I'm grateful that "Red Menace" didn't occur to me...though I probably still would have gone the right way - "Scare" seems slightly more appropriate for this weekend... :)

Neg. A trope is just a figure of speech.
