Gift clue of the day for $1600 complete the name of the country Guinea-this
I bet Ryan would have known the city for poker variation. That's fine I don't mind collecting trash on game stuff.
Clue one for the line-making guys going TS had me expecting lower totals today while the players did exceed yesterday's Combined Coryat.
What a surprise that THE HIP-HIP ERA was played last. Not. The guys got the first three right and I was happy to best them by one when I knew the record label for $800. Let's see LSV pick up the trash for $1000 in the category.
The FJ! category had me try some authors with lots of famous characters that J! likes: Twain, Dickens, Hemingway and a group play of Bronte.
The FJ! clue had me think bad guy 1850s and I Pavlov-ed Simon Legree. I read the clue and kept thinking on the way to making a correct switch as I realized it fit him better. It was only after I was done writing that I took in the exact year instead of decade. Oh, duh, of course.
0% on the show should approach at least 60% on the poll unless too many get stuck in HugoDumas-ville.
T.J. needed to bet 11201 to cover Michael's possible 25200. With the miss that leaves $2,799 for a squeak out win. Michael had Leslie locked and had room to bet small, medium or big while 10000 was too much. Leslie's 2000 worked out okay today while a different finish of winning 2800 to 2799 would smell better.
T.J. could have had a lock if he solved DD3. He was sniffing in the right area with "joves" though not there. I had no idea on the clue and only got it right by guessing a "J" thing since it was a freebie.

1851 novel = Moby-Dick is pretty close to Jeopardy Pavlov. The only other major one from that year in the Archive is House of the 7 Gables.
But much like Monday, I jumped on something I was pretty sure was actually earlier and matched TJ for the Count of Sandwich.
3 days in a row streak for me, and now I'm kind of rooting for it to continue. That's just wrong, man.

I could not find the same weight unit measure image on Shutterstock.
There is enough trash coupled with solving the FJ! clue to win from the 4th podium.

Just the fact that those two books were published the same year is amazing trivia. Banner year for American literature. At least, sophomore-year American literature.MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 2:06 pm The only other major one from that year in the Archive is House of the 7 Gables.

Always happy to see someone from my home city of Vegas win on this show- even if Leslie seems like she'll be a one-hit wonder.

I feel like this isn't the first time I failed to make this connection. Novel + revenge led me to Monte Cristo/Dantes.MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 2:06 pm 1851 novel = Moby-Dick is pretty close to Jeopardy Pavlov.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Re: Wednesday, December 2, 2020 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Archive playthrough:
Coryat $44,400 (49R, 1W)
DD 3/3
FJ
Three misses out of the last four FJs, after a prolonged hot streak. The law of averages wins again!
Only neg was 1.5 for 2 (degrees C).... I had always thought 1.5 was the key threshold, but maybe we've just given up on that lofty goal....
Final was a forehead-slapper. I locked myself into Dickens early and was too focussed on the word "supernatural". Had to swat away Marley's ghost as being pre-1851, but then was left with nothing. Need to get back on the wagon soon....

This game is a draw for the Strong Form of Shore's Conjecture. The second-place player bet "big." --Bob

The date didn't mean anything to me, so supernatural sent me to Dracula. Maybe I should have drawn an inference from the clue's failure to identify the response as a "title character." --BobMinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 2:06 pm 1851 novel = Moby-Dick is pretty close to Jeopardy Pavlov. Ran Early American History and Alliterative TV. Three 0/5s for me: Countries of the World (Bohemia could be literally anywhere), Taking Your Measure, and Pulitzer Prizes.
Couldn't process Oval for $200. I don't think of footballs as ovals.
NHO any of those nonprofits except PETA. Despite this, I clammed on them but got MANNA at $400.
"Gregarious" was my only miss in Crossword Clues. Can't say I've heard that word before.
Anyone else disappointed that "Auto-Tune" wasn't a self-demonstrating clue, like in this category?
1000 paces must be a kilometer, right? Wrong. That was ENORMOUS negbait that I'm surprised no one fell for.
NHO Elymas/Bar-Jesus. I see no way to figure that one out whatsoever. Poll request?
No guess on FJ! I think most of us were thrown off by thinking of getting revenge on another person, not an animal.
Lach Trash: Mason-Dixon Line, Peterbilt, gibbon

Not negbait at all. The ancient Romans weren't using a system that didn't exist until around 1800.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 7:28 pm 1000 paces must be a kilometer, right? Wrong. That was ENORMOUS negbait that I'm surprised no one fell for.
