Did anyone else find the artists they credited in the song category a little strange? Bette Midler for Bugle Boy, and saying The Beatles instead of George Harrison for Guitar. Not incorrect... just a little odd.

I hope Robert explains because this one's got me scratching my head. Does he somehow pronounce it with one syllable, or does he pronounce it with three?alietr wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 2:54 pmGar - fi - eld?econgator wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:43 pmAs opposed to ...?Robert K S wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 3:10 am I'm the guy who only just for the first time in his life is finding out that some (most? all?) people pronounce "Garfield" as two syllables.

I think I remember Titanic being on Seinfeld also. If I recall, one plot element was Elaine trying to get Jerry to the movie with him resisting. At the end of the episode, they're standing in a long line and Jerry says, "I can't believe you talked me into standing in line for three hours in the cold to see a movie where the ship sinks and everybody dies."MattKnowles wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:57 pmDitto. Knew it was the ship mentioned in Seinfeld but didn't get it. I can't remember what the joke on Seinfeld was. I think a couple lied about being on the Andrea Doria to get out of dinner or something.talkingaway wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 8:59 pm When I saw disasters, my two precalls were Titanic and "oh, dang, that disaster that was on Seinfeld". I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

Almost certainly.
George was in competition for an apartment with an elderly Andrea Doria survivor, a fact which makes the co-op board more sympathetic to the man. George seemingly one ups him by detailing to the board the many humiliating details of his life. They both lose the apartment to a guy Elaine was dating when he bribes the building's super.MattKnowles wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:57 pmDitto. WMGGW is properly a Beatles song (it was on "the White Album" and all four members played on it) and while the Bette Midler and Byrds attributions were a little jarring, they seemed to be based on being the biggest/more recent hit version.
I would prefer not to.

Re: Thursday, February 11, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
It started when somebody posted this tweet to a J!-adjacent Facebook group:
And when people post song parodies for which the meter is "close-but-no-cigar" it always bugs the heck out of me, so my smartass way of pointing out what I thought was an imperfection in the parody was to reply, "Is 'Garfield' two syllables?", to which the OP replied, "Yes?"
I replied:
A Season 29 1-time champion then asked, "do you pronounce 'field' on its own with two syllables as well?"This is one of those weird things that blows your mind. I've lived my whole life never considering that "Garfield" could be pronounced as two syllables, instead of three ("GAR-fee-uld"). M-W doesn't even list a three-syllable variant. (OED doesn't have an entry.) And it's not as if I don't live in Garfield land. Before he was president, Garfield was pastor at the church across the street from the house where I grew up. A nearby suburb is Garfield Heights. I grew up hearing the "Garfield-1 2-3-2-3" jingle on ads on TV (you'll have to look that up, but trust me, it was ubiquitous, and every person above a certain age from my area will know the melody instantly). I also can hear Jon yelling "GAR-FEE-ULD!" (Alvin!-style) from old episodes of "Garfield and Friends", the cartoon show that was on when I was a kid. M-W, and this poem, will never convince me that "Garfield" is two syllables.
I said:
OP then: "Honestly now I'm struggling with this. Half syllables aren't really a thing but it definitely fits this. Field seems like 1 and a half syllables".I asked myself the same question when puzzling this over. If I do, it seems to be less pronounced than with "Garfield". I would never consider "field" to be a two-syllable word.
A Season 33 player chimed in:
if it makes you feel any better, I feel this way about the word "oil". In my original WV accent it is firmly one syllable, but now that I don't use a heavy mountain accent I don't know how many syllables it has. It's not exactly one, it's not exactly 2 and then I realize I've been chanting the word oil for 5 minutes alone in my office like a big ole weirdo.

I don't think so. There is a movie where someone complains about Jerry giving away the plot while walking out, but pretty sure it wasn't Titanic. This is the only Titanic reference I remember from the show:AFRET CMS wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 4:36 pmI think I remember Titanic being on Seinfeld also. I remembered something like that in a show and it's bugging me that I can't think of where it's from. This clip from the Simpsons is the closest I can find.AFRET CMS wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 4:36 pmI think I remember Titanic being on Seinfeld also. Re: Thursday, February 11, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
There is this bit from "The Rye", which may be what people are recalling. The fictional movie "Firestorm" comes up in at least 3 different episodes.
GEORGE: Did anybody see Firestorm?
MR. ROSS: Firestorm, that's a hell of a picture.
GEORGE: Yeah.
MR. ROSS: Remember when they had the helicopter land on top of that car --
FRANK: Hey! Hey! Come on! Come on! I haven't seen it yet.
MR. ROSS: It doesn't have anything to do with the plot!
FRANK: Still! Still! I like to go in fresh!
GEORGE: Oh mother of God.

Re: Thursday, February 11, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
That was possibly not the best example. Maybe I live in a Beatle centric world to the degree that, while it is factually a Beatles song everyone I know, if you asked, would call it a Harrison song. The other two examples are better. Just felt like that thread was a half bubble off center. This Is Kirk! wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 12:06 pmIt's from the White Album, right? I think it would have been strange if they credited it to George.
