He wouldn't even have gotten his check yet. So unfair.

Hate to sidetrack, but is the TOC made up of those who won the most games, or the most money? Say someone won 10 games, but only won $1,000 each game; say someone else won only a single game, but won, say, $100k. Would both get in?

Wait, really? How often after the show do the contestants get the check?

Also, RIP Brayden :( :( :(

You get your check within 120 days of the airing of your last show. It usually arrives right around that date.

The following was posted on the LearnedLeague message board by FisherD. I am posting it with his consent.
I was Brayden's high school quiz coach, and he was every bit the humble, witty, affable young man you saw on Jeopardy!. As we reconnected during the airing of his run on the show, he was bright and focused on a positive future. It somehow came out then that he hadn't yet been invited to join our ranks as LLamas, so I quickly referred him and was looking forward to seeing him here (as well as in OQL-USA). Fate can be cruel, though, so we will never know. I can vouch that he was indeed one of us, probably the most gifted natural quizzer I have had the pleasure to work with, and simply one of the good guys. As one of the few who was (somewhat) privy to the health issues he had been experiencing, I do know that the family would ask for privacy and consideration at this time.

I'm not usually one to say things like this, but it certainly seems like he was meant to show the world who he was when he did. It is 100% fitting that he was able to do so with Mr. Trebek. He was an amazing young man and will be sorely missed. Ave atque vale, frater.

Games won is almost always the deciding stat.

I cannot add to what others have said so eloquently. We are so fortunate we got to meet him vicariously and cheer him on; now shocked and saddened and my heart goes out to his family and friends.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

Whichever archivist edited Brayden's bio on his J! page must be that cliche person that still dates checks 2020?

I’m in utter shock. Enjoyed his run immensely. I also have a child close to his age and I’m weeping at what his family is going through. Utterly heartbreaking.

How awful. What a tragedy for his family, and such a loss of a bright future for this really impressive young man. So sad.

I enjoyed Brayden's run perhaps more than most as a fellow 20-something and baseball card/book collector (not to mention his skill as champion and being a person of the highest quality).. One of my favorites, no doubt.

Absolutely heartbroken to hear this news. I'm glad he got to have the J! experience, and that we got to enjoy his presence. My best wishes to his friends and family.

I really enjoyed his games. It is so tragic that he died so young, and his Jeopardy experience is the least of it. RIP Brayden.
