My Scrabble dictionary has DIXIT but not DIX. Dictionary.com and Oxford's Lexico only show it as a last name (generally referencing Dorothea).

Re: Learned League 88 - Feb/Mar '21
On one or two match days every season, there is a slate of questions that just seem ultra easy and I get 5 correct...and MD 11 was one of those. The only one I missed was the opera question. Apparently, this batch was easy for other people in my rundle, too; there was lots of GREEN showing up on the match day recap.
If history follows its normal pattern, there will be a killer batch of questions coming up. Unless Thorsten is going soft. Or maybe MD11's questions just happened to match up with my own personal wheelhouse.

I also got five right, missing the opera. Two questions were in the 90s and another was 86 so it was a pretty easy day. The other two had you name an Italian city known for waterways and one where I benefited from being old enough to remember Our Gang/Little Rascals being on TV all the time.SBurrus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 6:37 am On one or two match days every season, there is a slate of questions that just seem ultra easy and I get 5 correct...and MD 11 was one of those. This is a weird season for me. I'm first in my B rundle for correct answers....and 15th in the standings. My DE is almost .700, so not horrible. Just lots of 1 point losses. Lots and lots.
I eat chicken. That's what I do.

ouachiouat got five in only missing the opera and unfortunately for him, I knew got all 6 to be able laugh off facing a 7(5). We each gave each other 3 for Venice. Axis of Evil played way easier than Little Rascals/Our Gang though I'm a little insulted to have received a 1 for the TV instead of a zero.

I missed the bridge question. My first instinct was Lisbon and even though the words looked Italian rather than Portuguese, and it would make more sense for a modern bridge in Venice to be "controversial," I decided I better not change it. That cost me the win, but I did get a tie. Pretty easy day overall, I thought.

You would drink a beer on our match day....ha. This season has been brutal. I have some serious ground to make up to pull out of relegation.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 10:09 am ouachiouat got five in only missing the opera and unfortunately for him, I knew got all 6 to be able laugh off facing a 7(5). And I wanted to give a 0 on 4 of the questions, so I figured I'd throw you a little bone with a point on TV. Good match!

Good job by both of youse getting the fiver. Venice kept two others from the same result. Bamaman is a Roman numeral and an obscure opera character away from two beers in a row.Bamaman wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 7:08 amI also got five right, missing the opera. I was glad Bamaman got 5 right in our private match because I pissed away two answers, and getting beat that badly makes my defense irrelevant. I answered the Chinese food question as General Cho (Tso) because I am sure I've seen it labeled as such in a local buffet. I would have felt guilty getting credit for it since I find no evidence supporting an alternate spelling and I shouldn't get two guesses. I changed "our gang" to "Spanky and Our Gang" 3 times and decided I'd rather miss with the latter. I somehow got credit for it but don't know why. Like Kirk, I wanted to go to Portugal with the bridge, but unlike Kirk, I went to Rome but really wanted to go with Venice.

I got Lash LaRue because he was cited in a line in Pulp Fiction (The Wolf talking to Vincent), so I looked him up a few years ago. Got me the win.

Township was just one of those things I've picked up about South Africa over the years. Soweto is an abbreviation for "South West Township".

That term was front-and-center in the news, Time magazine, etc back in the apartheid era. I would think you'd have to dig a little deeper to read about South African current affairs these days.

No clue on township and I guessed shantytown. I thought I had no idea on cube and was surprised to see my guess of hexahedron was correct. I still don't know what the game is, but in trying to follow the description of what was listed got lucky as I also considered heptahedron.

It's a typical set of dice for Dungeons and Dragons.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 10:08 am No clue on township and I guessed shantytown.
