I'm currently working on a list of every category title ever used on the current version of the show, do any of you remember any categories that are not currently in the archive? one person I know seems to recall a category titled "Ancient greek literature" (I personally will be shocked if that has ever been on the show, (I did tell him why I was asking though so

Grabbing the binder nearest me and only willing to check on two scoresheets:

PLAYGROUND RHYME 9/9/92

Another J! round category from that game is THE LETTER G, but the archive search can't handle something that generic to see if it's unique.

9/11/92 J! round - SEASONINGS
DJ! - THE ARAB WORLD; GLASS & GLASSWARE

That will be quite a list. Friday was episode #8340. Subtract the 65 that were double counted and add back the 13 SJs and 8 GOATs and we have 8296. That gives you 99,552 regular categories plus 8,296 FJs. Plus however many tie-breakers they have had.

Granted, a lot of them were repeated. But as they go for cutesy titles, a category is reused under a different name.

This one is in the Archive, but my all time favorite category is "TWO COMPLETELY UNRELATED THINGS".

and regarding the cutesy titles even those are quite often repeated.

Here’s something I have never noticed before. The last category in the J round in S1E1 was “Number, Please” and it went unused. The very next episode the category in that spot was “By the Numbers”.

I wonder if they reused the category they had planned for the first episode in the second.

I can't image so. They'd have had the second game completely ready already.

In Inside Jeopardy, Eisenberg mentions they'd use different category names if they had 2 similar categories in consecutive games. THE CIVIL WAR and THE BLUE AND THE GREY, and POTENT POTABLES and BOTTOMS UP were examples he mentioned. The 2 different category names point toward having lined up 2 distinct sets of clues.

I remember a board from circa 1990 where the three rightmost categories were DANCES, WITH, and WOLVES. I'm sure DANCES has been a category on other occasions, not so sure about WOLVES, and pretty sure WITH was just a category that one time.

While waiting for my upload in the credits thread to finish I looked at the 9/16/92 game

J! round - FROM THE OLD WORLD (search did not like me checking on ENDS IN "OO")
DJ! round - FROM THE NEW WORLD

Since is this is a different project and not too time consuming I've looked at 9/17 & 9/18 to complete that week.

9/17/92 J! round - EXERCISE VIDEOS
FJ! round - U.S. ELECTIONS :o (This has to be a mistake, right?)

9/18/92 J! round - MOTOWN HITS; MORE MOOSE POTPOURRI (MOOSE POTPOURRI was 3/12)
DJ! - FAMOUS IT; RAIDS RAID
FJ! - FILMS OF THE 1940's

FAMOUS IT is what I have on my scoresheet. I have no idea what it means and can't see any way I'm misreading the category name. There is no theme going.
