Re: Thursday, June 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Mayim caught heat online for her handling of the actress incorrect written response on Monday in seeming to not being familiar with the name. She's going to get crucified this time for stumbling over one of the justice names.
Mayim had extra things to add after many clues today that went beyond typical ones such as providing a first name. It's noticeable and perhaps a bit over the line although it's at a level I can tolerate. Others will have less patience about it. Mayim may want to stay offline today.
The players will not be unscathed either as beyond the poor 23600 Combined Coryat and awful more than a dozen TS clues the stumper on the kids clothing line will be a trash pickup across the country.
The FJ! category had me telling myself to leave more precall time and worry about preparing some of theFJguy stuff until after the game.
When the FJ! clue came up I had six of nine to look at on my paper as I was too slow to recall 3 of the gentlemen. During the music I lost time in being distracted by trying to make an Antonin/Alito match in searching for letter matches. I was saved by my cheat sheet in having one of the names and realizing with enough time to write quickly with an ink pen who to add for a correct response.
For sure it's a home solve and I would like to think I could have done it in time in the studio with the full break to think ahead of time.
1/3 on the show does not surprise me as two-parters in real game-time pressure is no fun for contestants. Mara could have locked the match with more discipline to avoid so many incorrect responses, a higher wager on DD2 or even a bigger bet by Ankit on DD3. Instead Ankit was able to make his sole solve pay off for the title.
Becky was not sharp by the end after winning the J! round with 5800.

Sotomayor/Souter here, which is at least alliterative.
I need to add "Who replaced which Supreme Court justice" to my anki deck.

Finally done: https://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=7042
Not the kind of game I could archive quickly. My hands are tired of typing Mayim today.
R.I.P. Iola Morton - Who knew? My reading never went beyond the blue mattes.

That was my guess, too.MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 2:12 pm Sotomayor/Souter here, which is at least alliterative.
I also had Monument Station instead of Charing Cross. Ah well.

Another CC error: Laman for Le Mans (also MB's pronunciation didn't help).
I had Stevens/Sotomayor.
Ankit should've lost for making that horrible FJ! wager.

Re: Thursday, June 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
runs: Set,
DDs:
trash: Garanimals, Oral Roberts, Judges, debunk, cyberspace, Helsinki DD, Heinlein, malachite (10600)
FJ: Stevens & Sotomayor, matching jpr281.
Had Adelaide for Adalie.
Shades of Green had the easiest clues on the bottom.
I think Ankit should've bet exactly 4800. It's just enough to beat a cover & miss by Mara, while still preserving 2nd place if Ankit misses.

Re: Thursday, June 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Sure, leaving anything accomplished nothing. So the correct answer is $7600.
My point was, even though his wager was not ideal and a little strange, the difference In winning chances between $6000 and $7600 is probably less than 1%.

Re: Thursday, June 10, 2021 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
My choice would have been 6200 exactly. In the unlikely event Mara bets zero, he still has a shot with a tie-breaker, but as long as she wagers something and gets it wrong, he wins with a get. If both he and Becky miss, he still takes 2nd.DBear wrote: I think Ankit should've bet exactly 4800. It's just enough to beat a cover & miss by Mara, while still preserving 2nd place if Ankit misses.
With Ankin's actual wager, a $5 wager by Mara is looking pretty smart in hindsight.

Always the safest option in any circumstance (and not just for the listed person but anyone in general. )
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

That might not have helped, since Sotomayor replaced Souter. (I also said that.)MinnesotaMyron wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 2:12 pm Sotomayor/Souter here, which is at least alliterative.

The lemming effect strikes again: Mara may well have had a lock if she hadn't tried correcting Becky's pronunciation of Job.

i'm still shaking my head in disbelief at the triple stumpers for "cyberspace," and, even more so, for "heinlein."

Can't even who Kavanaugh replaced. Sam kept clouding my mind. haha
I even struggled thinking of the most recent incompetent. I mean, incumbent.

If he had done that and gotten FJ wrong, the girl could score higher if she opted for a 0 wager. 2k beats 1k if you're going home.
