Boring, almost robotic.
I did find yesterday’s edit interesting where he explained the ruling while holding the FJ card at the end of the second round, then to commercial, then explained again before reading the final.

Putting Guthrie and Gupta at the same level, I can see (although I would number them both considerably lower than 8.25), but Anderson Cooper just felt so at ease and alive on that stage, I'm not sure why he gets mixed in at the same level. I would put Rogers lower and Richards higher than you have them, too. Richards, not above Cooper, but above Rogers for sure.

Re: How Did Sanjay Gupta Do as Host?
8 from me as the good doctor in no way tried to outshine the contestants. My impression was Sanjay could take direction and adjust as the games went along. Things from the host that generated comments from games last week such as slow to rule seemed better this week.
The weird double explanation for why a response was not accepted in the 7/9 game is the kind of thing that falls on the show staff and not the guest host.
When at the host's lectern did Sanjay not stand on a riser? Sometimes when the straight shot went there he looked like a teen standing there instead of a grown man as he did not seem to be above it enough. Google says he's 5'8". Mayim, much shorter, always appeared at what looked like a proper height in respect to the lectern.
Perhaps I got too used to seeing him from his cool home when he did Zoom interviews.
On J! Dr. Gupta was more in the vein of Bill Whitaker in playing things by the book and not bringing any extra energy to the game. That's fine as it is not the show where the host has to bring the funny or snark. I'm just not sure that Dr. Gupta's style would be enough to grow the show and keep it going into the 2030s.

This is right about where I come down, too, though I'd expand the gap between Aaron and the news crew just a bit.
I approach it both from the standpoint of a fan and a hopeful future contestant. I think the first four just brought more energy and consistency to the game.

Re: How Did Sanjay Gupta Do as Host?
I gave him a 6, the same as Bill, and for precisely the same reason: lack of any personality in the host. Yes, the host should let the contestants be the stars, but as Alex amply demonstrated that doesn’t mean leaving your personality at the door. My highly subjective rankings so far:
Buzzy - 9
Ken, Mayim - 8
Aaron, Savannah, Anderson - 7
Bill, Sanjay - 6
Mike, Katie - 5
Dr Oz - 3
If I were in charge of casting (and you can all be thankful that I’m not), I’d only give serious consideration to the 8 and 9 scores. The 7s would be a secondary cut, especially if one demonstrated serious interest in the job (unlikely).

Dislike Katie so much she doesn’t make the rankings?Woof wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 12:12 pm I gave him a 6, the same as Bill, and for precisely the same reason: lack of any personality in the host. I liked him. He was understated, but still personable.

Competent but dull. I don’t think he wants the job anyway.

Solid. Competent. Did the job that was asked of him.
He was quick to make a couple of questionable rulings that first week, but the judges didn't step in to correct him.

Re: How Did Sanjay Gupta Do as Host?
I gave him a 7 ..... but it was a good 7. He's either at the bottom of my top tier or at the top of my second tier. Low-key, unobtrusive, seldom annoying, pretty watchable. A trifle below Anderson Cooper and significantly higher than Bill Whitaker, and light years ahead of Aaron Rodgers and [shudder] Oz.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

Re: How Did Sanjay Gupta Do as Host?
I've been bored by "how are the guest hosts doing" conversations, and the only opinion I've been able to muster up on the matter has been, "they're mostly fine, I don't really care." But somehow in ways I can't place, Sanjay has felt really really natural to me in a way that sets him apart from everyone else. I may have seen him as a host more than a guest host. I can't bother to rank people, though.

Re: How Did Sanjay Gupta Do as Host?
This. Our household really liked Sanjay behind the host podium and felt that he was very natural throughout, comfortable with the game and the contestants, very camera-genic, enjoying being there and with a feel for the game and its flow that almost no-one else had. I've been baffled by comments describing him as dull or monotonic. I rate him very close to Ken and Buzzy and feel that the show would be in excellent hands with him as host, in the very unlikely event that he was prepared to give up his two day jobs (at least one of which he is passionate about) to take it.seaborgium wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 4:37 pm I've been bored by "how are the guest hosts doing" conversations, and the only opinion I've been able to muster up on the matter has been, "they're mostly fine, I don't really care."
