Not "Gary", lol.

(This is the kind of clue I was expecting to break my streak.)

I think my incorrect answer was a better incorrect answer than the two contestants' incorrect answer.

I had
Spoiler
Anthony Wayne, who is indeed the namesake of Fort Wayne
. I thought that was a pretty good wrong answer; in fact, I'm a little annoyed that the TOM was either of the two fairly obscure things:
Spoiler
Anthony Wayne died in the 1790s
, or
Spoiler
Lafayette is the one who went on a tour of the US
.

I'm going to guess you went with "Wayne"? That's what I likely would have gone with, had I not spoiled myself on this clue

EDIT: You edited your post, and I was right

Mayim chatted with Jonathan about the possibility of playing Matt Amodio in the ToC.

Jonathan has qualified for the ToC, but his processing sure was off for trying Bessemer for the Illinois steel plow guy. The game moves fast, but it's important to try take in the whole of a clue and not speed Pavlov it.

What should be a Pavlov is The Village Blacksmith poet, while at us at home tracking scores are happy to notch some trash each game.

The FJ! clue left me unsure where to key and a little of both did not work. For hero I thought about Daniel Boone, but knew 1824-35 had to be too late. War hero? I made a Tippecanoe connection and wrote W.H. Harrison even though I had no idea if there was a Harrison, Indiana. There is, but of course that is not going to be near iconic enough for a FJ! clue.

Indiana cities was the other path to try. Indianapolis was out, I sensed that Gary, Indiana...Elbert Gary of judiciary fame was not a "hero". I considered switching to Purdue just because it felt better than Harrison but had no idea who Purdue might be. Right there, so close, and could not connect the rest of the dots.

Well done by Adam to earn the 2nd place money while no chance to win as Jonathan was not close to risking enough on DDs to jeopardize the lock. And Jonathan solved his DDs anyway, so that is how to defend on a Monday.

The archiving will be delayed as I did not see the first segment. I could do the rest of the game with place-holding for the 15 clues, but it's better to try to catch a later airing instead. It will be done before the Bills/Titans kickoff.

Just to be clear, I wasn't mocking the players' guesses of Gary, which I didn't even notice. I was mocking my own. Making fun of the players is always bad form.

Finally done and thank your for your patience and understanding.

Tomorrow I will have to toss a coin to decide which CBS affiliate to begin with at 10. It was backwards for the normal pattern today.

Guessed Jackson, didn't see what Indiana had to do with him, but I wasn't getting Lafayette. :(
Shoulda used the Gary Numan song instead 8-)
The Nova clue was poorly written IMO. It seemed to imply two different dogs, so I answered poodle & bulldog. 🐕
[edit] rough start for Anna as her first response gets negged for "you" instead of "you've" [/edit]
Easy 1800 trash in Blacksmithing. :D
Got the DDs.

Can anyone explain how to solve this FJ? It seems like starting with Indiana cities is the wrong way to go since it's the 10th most populous Indiana city. The year also looks like a red herring since Lafayette is probably most famous for participating in the American Revolution.

{I guessed "Crockett," just going by the year.)
My lucky numbers are 6, 66, and 666.

I benefited on this FJ by seeing a story a few months ago on CBS Sunday Morning about a new book on Lafayette, which happened to mention his tour of the US in the 1820’s. Coincidentally, I also worked once for a company which had a manufacturing plant in Lafayette, Indiana, so it was easy to cross check my initial guess.

Started off with Wayne, but continued to think of other cities in IN, as Wayne is certainly famous, but a hero? Thankfully, I have visited a friend when she was at Perdue, so I have been to West Lafayette and I liked that name better.

Someone who toured several states, including the Midwest... uh... Johnny Appleseed.

Some days I question why I even bother.

A pretty neat FJ clue in that most would automatically assume it refers to an American (born) hero.

1. I was not aware of the date of (your spoiler)'s demise, and I also answered with his name. "Lafayette Indiana" is not familiar to me.

2. I guess we have seen by now that Jonathan is no Nancy Zerg.

3. The champ is having a really nice run. A tip of the hat. I wonder if his plan is to keep winning until some time next season so he won't have to face Matt again in the next ToC....

Well, I caught two lucky breaks in that I have read Sarah Vowell's book about Lafayette's return trip to the States, and I have been to West Lafayette, IN to see my alma mater beat up on Purdue.
