more than lisa.
I will risk $1,430.
There must be a significance
to that. What is it?
Something between me
and my wife.
[ Laughter ]
There are no secrets
on "jeopardy!"
All right. $1,430 at risk
on this clue...
[ Beep ]
Correct response --

minute to go.

danielle at $3,400,
and roger at $5,970.
Let's see what final jeopardy!
Has in store for you --
people on the map.
Back in a moment.
Yes, we checked
with the vatican,
and they informed us
that the pope does give
an "urbi et orbi" speech
at easter as well.
And so we have credited roger
with the amount of money
we took away from him
and credited him
with a correct response.
We go now to people on the map,
and here is the clue...
30 seconds, players.
Good luck.
Danielle, we'll start with you.
What did you put down?
Which man did you think of?
"Who is..."
who is that?
"Kyesto?"
Kyoto.
Kyoto, I'm sorry.
I thought it was kyesto.
No, that's wrong.
So it cost you $3,000.
You're at $400.
Let's go to lisa.
Her response was...no one.
And how much was her wager?
Nothing.
So she will finish
probably in second place.
We'll go to roger. Did he come
up with the correct response?
He said "marco polo."
No.
It's ho chi minh.
Ho chi minh, asian city.
I bet you risked $1,430.
I was right! Hey!
And you wind up with $7,740,
and you get to come back.
Perhaps we will find out
his secret tomorrow!
See you then.
It's handy for Clue Crew clues when doing S18 games.

Spoiler
Sounds like her answer was "What is Caesarian calendar, or just Caesar?", as if she wasn't sure if they wanted the calendar or the ruler. Don't think I've heard that particular wrong answer before.
Spoiler
It almost sounded to me like she was trying to say "Julius Caesar" but kind of got thrown off by Alex saying "no" in the middle of it and dropped a syllable. I wonder if she thought the Julian calendar was named for the Caesar rather than a pope.
I believe this is what I'll go with, then.

Thanks all.

As of this post the clue count in the Archive is 349,678 or 322 away from a milestone of 350,000. If the rest of the college games are filled in a quick batch as sometimes happens in catch-up mode then that would make it pretty close. It's something to watch for to make sure the key clue is noted.

On further review (at home, where I can listen to the audio again) I believe this is it. I look forward to a barrage of correct suggestions from those with opposing viewpoints. ;)

I filled in 1/23/02: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1220

The links should all work and clue 26 in the DJ! round has a notation for it being the 350,000th clue entered into the Archive.

In the DJ! round there is a category, ON THE ROAD WITH JEOPARDY! about shows taped away from Culver City. Unlike the players, I got all five right, so I must watch the show a little more than the average contestant. ;)

The KING LEAR category was underlined with one long line and not separated under each word. It's not looking right in the Archive and I don't know how to fix that one.

Looks right to me; either it was fixed or your browser isn't rendering it right or do you mean the ..G L.. look so close there doesn't appear to be a space in the first place?

This is what it looks like to me:

I tried shrinking the size on my monitor and looking at it from different angles and I can see how it should look depending on the adjustments I make. If it looks fine for everyone else then great. Part of it may be those shadow graphics that were added to the font?

ETA: I just looked at it in Firefox and it's perfect, so yeah probably a browser thing as well.

Looks weird in Chrome--especially if I increase the size--similar to your screenshot. Looks fine in Firefox, regardless of size.

Just checked in Chrome, yeah, it's not as bad for me but similar effect. Initial impression, Chrome adds the underline drop shadow, the underline, then the lettering drop shadow, then the lettering.

Jeff-thecdboy wrote: Sat Sep 02, 2017 3:40 pm I saw Robair Mackey from the old ATGS forum has some 1993-94 season episodes documented with the intros mentioned, and here's some that I found so far by putting their names in the search box (source: http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.game-shows).

JUNE 8, 1994
Tim Calaway, a management analyst from Anchorage, Alaska
Stefan Sharkansky, a computer consultant from Madison, Wisconsin
Bob Majeska, whose 2-day cash winnings total $16,299
I recall finding Mr. Sharkansky back before I had been on, by searching to see if anyone with the same given name as mine had been on the show. I thought I recalled something saying he'd been a champ, but that wasn't the case. I found the ATGS post, and this is how FJ went:
Stefan: $3,100 + $2,300 = $5,400
Bob: $6,200 + $0 = $6,200
Tim: $8,900 - $4,000 = $4,900

So there are two games involving a Stefan where a third place player with exactly half of second doesn't go all in, but this one proved more costly to that player.

FJ asked for two of the three presidents who were elected with more than 500 electoral votes. The ATGS posts don't have the correct responses to the clues quoted, but this is easy enough to find out.
Spoiler
I would have been able to name all three, but I knew for sure Reagan and Nixon each won in landslides for their second term. I wonder how Tim missed this; I feel like I recall a game in the '90s where someone lost because he wasn't specific when responding in FJ with a president who shared his last name with another one, but I also feel like if that memory was of Tim referring to FDR as "Roosevelt" in this game, I also would have a recollection of a player named Stefan, which I don't.

I have put in the first 11 clues of the 3/1/02 game: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1445 with the video in the post above. Any archivist is more than welcome to the rest of the game. Here is the CC file if that helps:
Spoiler

This is "jeopardy!"
Today's contestants are
a recent college graduate
from Ventura, California...
a freelance writer and stand-up comedian
from Waltham, Massachusetts...
and our returning champion,
a graduate student
from Columbus, Ohio...
and now here is
the host of "jeopardy!" --
Alex trebek!

Alex: Thank you, Johnny. Hi, everyone. We're going to wrap up the week today with our returning champion, Kevin, and these newcomers, Steve and...

Quyen: Quyen.

Alex: Quyen--thank you very much for helping me with that. Let's go to work right now. Here comes the Jeopardy! Round. And today, we have these categories for you...

our clue crew took the cruise.
Kevin, you select
first, please.
He's the mayor for $200.
What is moscow?
He's the mayor, $400.
Hi, I'm rudy giuliani.
I'm at the desk of one of my
heroes -- this "little flower,"
who was mayor of new york city
from 1934 to 1945.
Who is laguardia?
Yes, fiorello
"little flower" laguardia.
He's the mayor for $600.
What is berlin?
Be more specific.
What is west berlin?
He's the mayor for $800.
What is san francisco?
He's the mayor for $1,000.
Who is chirac?
Let's get ready to tumble, $200.
What is a washing machine?
No.
What is a dryer?
Let's get ready to tumble,
$400.
What is
"and jill came tumbling after"?
Tumble for $600, please.
What is "tumbleweeds"?
Let's get ready to tumble, $800.
What is...
oh, too long.
What is tumbledown?
Tumble for $1,000.
What is "rough & tumble"?
Tv sitcoms for $200, please.
What is "frasier"?
Sitcoms, $400.
What is "spin city"?
Sitcoms, $600.
What is
"the garry shandling show"?
No. Kevin or quyen?
What is "sex and the city"?
No.
It starred garry shandling,
but it was called
"the larry sanders show."
You're right -- sorry.
Steve, go again.
Sitcoms, $800.
Thank you for your approval.
Who is garry marshall?
Sitcoms, $1,000.
What is
"the dick van dyke show"?
And with that correct response,
you go to $3,000,
and we take our first break
for these messages.
Please stay with us.
Is a recent college graduate
who worked at a public-relations
firm for a while.
It says here you had to lower
the pitch of your voice
when answering
the telephones?
Yes. As you can hear,
my voice is a tad high.
So when I worked there,
they had this whole
image thing going on,
and so when I answered
the phone,
it was a little bit high.
And so the assistant made me
practice and practice,
and by the time I was done,
it was down to "hell-o-o-O."
What kind of a firm
was this...or did it become?
Steve calechman,
from waltham, massachusetts --
a freelance writer
and a stand-up comedian.
In view of everything
that has happened
in the last six months,
has it been more difficult
to do comedy
and to write material?
No.
No, because people really want
to laugh.
The biggest thing
at the beginning was
they felt
guilty about laughing,
but they still wanted
to be together.
And they want to forget.
It's good for us, too.
We can talk for 45 minutes
and not really
have to think about it.
But it really hasn't gotten
in the way.
Sometimes, material about
the stuff is a little sensitive,
and you don't have to go out
of your way to do it.
People don't really need
to hear it.
Kevin scott's our champ.
He's a graduate student
in political science.
And as you can see,
he has reddish-colored hair.
A little bit.
A little bit now, yes.
And that has produced a number
of nicknames, I understand,
including "red"...
"red monkey."
Why?
When I was a freshman
in high school,
our debate team had something
about the beastie boys song
"brass monkey."
And so when we gathered
for a team picture,
they had bastardized it
to "red monkey,"
and that name stuck
for at least high school.
And some of my friends
still call me that on occasion.
Do they do it
at their own peril?
No.
It's better than "carrot top,"
which is entirely too common.
Well, I don't know.
"Carrot top" might feel
differently about that.
He's making a lot of money
as a stand-up comic.
Steve, you have command
of the board right now.
You check it out, make a
selection, and we will continue.
Fashion statements, $200.
What is "the shoe"?
Fashion statements, $400.
What is "one's belt"?
Fashion statements for $600.
What is "coattails"?
No.
Kevin or quyen?
[ Beep ]
"To his
mother's apron strings."
Coattails for fathers, i
suppose. Kevin, back to you.
Fashion statements for $800.
You have the lead.
You have a $1,600 margin.
$100, please.
Are we back to that?
Yes.
All right, here is the clue
in fashion statements...
what is a stuffed shirt?
Yes. Don't you wish you had
risked more than $100?
Go again.
Fashion statements for $1,000.
What are "bootstraps"?
Down mexico way for $200.
What is the moon?
No. Quyen or kevin?
[ Beep ]
Built to resemble
the crater of a volcano.
Kevin, back to you.
Down mexico way, $400.
What are the sun and the moon?
Down mexico way for $600.
What is picante?
No. Steve or kevin?
[ Beep ]
But you're on the
right track -- it's tabasco.
Kevin, back to you.
Time for a princess cruise
for $200, please.
I'm on this deck,
whose name is from french
for "walk" or "stroll."
What is a promenade?
Cruise for $400.
It's okay
to gamble once the ship is at least this far
from the U.S.
[ Beep ]
You have to be
three miles away.
Less than a minute to go,
steve.
Cruise, $600.
It's the nam
e of an ancient type of ship,
or of the kitchen
of a modern vessel.
What is the galley?
Cruise, $800.
The captain and I are traveling
23 statute miles per hour,
which is 20 of these.
What are knots?
Princess cruise, $1,000.
This term for the area
where I'm standing
originally meant the
central court of a roman house.
Boy, that's big.
What is a plaza?
No. Steve or quyen?
[ Beep ]
That was the atrium.
[ Beep beep beep ]
All right, we have kevin
at $5,500, steve at $3,200,
and quyen at minus $1,200.
But one or two correct
responses in double jeopardy!
Will get you out
of the hole, quyen.
And you get to make the first
selection when we come back.
It's time for double jeopardy!
Here we go.
These are the categories...
what?!
Those letters will come up
in each correct response.
Oh, boy, our writers
were having a great day
when they put this together.
Quyen, start us off.
How about parts of the ear
for $400?
What is the canal?
Parts of the ear, $800.

one word right on this one.
You hope so.
All right, $3,000, you said.
Here is the clue
in "american" A...
what is the house un-american
activities committee?
You are right.
"American" a for $2,000,
please.
Listen.
As the body can be nourished
on any food,
though it were boiled grass
and the broth of shoes,
so the mind can be fed
by any knowledge.
[ Beep ]

You're right.
You're out of the hole.

Who is olivier?
[ Beep beep beep ]
And we won't have time
for anything else.
But we have quyen
back on the plus side,
and she's very happy
about that, and we are, too.
It means she'll be here
for final jeopardy!
Steve at $9,600,
kevin at $16,900.
And here comes final jeopardy!
The category is "the movies."
Good subject --
clue in a moment.
Here's the clue...
30 seconds.
Go for it.
Quyen, did you see
the film?
I don't know.
All right, let's see what
you put down as your response.
"Castaway?"
Yeah, that's right --
$1,200.
You spelled it incorrectly,
but that's okay.
You put it in one word.
That doesn't matter.
You're right.
You've got $2,400.
Steve, you had $9,600, and you
put it in one word, also.
Was it one word in the film?
I don't think so.
But you add $5,001,
so you go to $14,601.
And you're hoping
that kevin scott is not
familiar with the film.
But he is.
And he added $2,301,
so he remains champion
with $19,201!
Good game, players.
Fun time for all.
We'll see you.
Take care, ladies and gentlemen.
The trips are in and I put in Kevin's 2-day total. Clue 2 has that Rudy guy who is still in the news more than 16 years later. Locally, Willie Brown has a weekly column in the newspaper and he's still very much in touch with what goes on in the city.

Hammer will love clue #1 as it could be any of hundreds of cities in that country. :)
