I wonder if, obliquely as it may have been, this was also the first mention of AIDS on the show.

Also, I added a note about Constante Ribalaigua's name, just to prevent any future correction suggestions over the alternate spelling (and to gloss the uncommon first name).

"Makers of this diet supplement say it 'has been around for 45 years; let the disease change its name'"--how did that work out for them?

Boy that's quite the clue, isn't it?

Thanks for the search. I assumed "aids" and all the words that included it would bring the Archive to a crawl.

Working on the 12/7/92 game and what did Dennis say at J!5? Harness? Horse? Hornet? No way they talk like that in AZ, right? He must have ties somewhere closer to Boston or Baltimore?

ETA: Now I am at the chats. Dennis is from Worcester, MA. I knew his English did not sound right to my West Coast ears.

Given the category and the clue, hornet seems like the way to go.

No new video to report, but I thought I would post for posterity's sake this snippet I came across in the archives of my local newspaper, the Plain Dealer, regarding what would have been Show #1996, aired April 19, 1993:
MAKING MONEY AT THE MIKE ... Elizabeth Ellers, a native of Warren who now works as a market researcher at Yankelovich Partners in Westport, Conn., will be a contestant on "Jeopardy." She's scheduled for Monday. Ellers is the daughter of retired PD state reporter Richard Ellers and his wife, Martha, of Warren. They'll be huddled close to the TV set and tuned in to WEWS Channel 5 at 7:30 p.m.

Yes, archived. A search of Zickel here or the archive quickly turns it up.

Show #1779, aired 1992-04-30 is in. The succeeding game was already in the Archive. The winning champ is the one eventually defeated by Jerome Vered.

Anyone who thinks Jeopardy! is easier today than it was in the past is encouraged to play these boards. Nearly all of the clues seem to me to be top-row J! Round difficulty level, with the exception of four or five bottom-row clues and maybe a couple of clues in THE 1991 TV SEASON for those too young to remember. (I missed the $800 DJ! clue about the music director, because I associate him not with New York, as mentioned in the clue, but with his (earlier) long career in Los Angeles.)

Happy New Year to all.

Typo in the first word of J8.

Yep, material much more basic back then.

Alex’s comment to Robin in FJ was wrong.
Spoiler
Roosevelt (whichever one she meant, both fit the comment) was Assistant Secretary, not Secretary, of the Navy

For no great reason other than not sure the video is widely available:

And in the nepotism department, not only did FDR and TR hold this position, TR Jr and Nicholas Roosevelt (a cousin, I think) also held it.

I think you mean this guy. I couldn’t figure out exactly where he fit on the tree.
