Re: New old games in the J-Archive
Let's quote Mark's post that had the video:
finishemzoe shared an article about Dan Alves winning the last three games of 1985, so this is his second game on December 30. Those are some tough last names to hear from a video tape (through a speaker and a camera's microphone). Best I've got so far for Sally is Laschever and DeShields for Robert (signed in as Bob).MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2013 5:14 pm Here are the introductions from a game I am guessing is late 1985 or early 1986. Any help with the last names would be great. Unfortunately, I only have the first three clues of the game. Check out the reflection on the TV screen to see me.

I hear "Laschever" clearly but Robert's last name is less clear. I definitely don't hear "DeShields". It's more like "Nasheef" (not saying that's his name, though--just what I hear).seaborgium wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 10:49 pm Let's quote Mark's post that had the video:finishemzoe shared an article about Dan Alves winning the last three games of 1985, so this is his second game on December 30. What is Sally's occupation? I hear "a personnel catcher", which can't be right. I guess it's "personnel specialist"?
EDIT: I got a Facebook hit on Sally, who has a different last name now, but several friends with the old name, which is "Laschober".

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
Does anyone happen to know the returning champ Bruce Naegeli defeated in his first game? I was scrolling through season 4 trying to figure out the gaps between missing games to see if there was possibly another 4-time champion with more money than Michael Shutterly, since it turns out that he was allegedly NOT the alternate for the 1988 TOC, via his own words. Mathematically, none of the earlier games in the season amount to the possibility of another 4-time winner. It's known that Kevin Frear loses his 5th game (#905), and that Bruce Naegeli's 5th win takes place on show #913. So with that info in mind, the only possible scenario of a 4-time champion with more than $49,200 (but less than $49,401) is that the person who beat Kevin in his 5th game also lost to Bruce in his 1st game, since none of the remaining shows in the season amount to anything.
If Bruce didn't defeat a 4x champion however, it raises the very real possibility that they either went with a candidate other than Shutterly, or they may not have had an alternate that year at all. Or maybe Kevin's 4-day total of $47,200 is inaccurate? Can't really find confirmation on his total anywhere but the archive.
UPDATE: Found an article that mentions the number $47,200 but it says that he won that in a single day, which we all know isn't true. They very possibly could have mistaken that with his 4-day total, but I don't know if this is actual proof. Curious about the 3-day figure of $39,000 as well. Maybe his total was actually $49,200 and HE was the alternate... idk... help me out here.

The "single day" thing isn't that far out when you consider that his five games aired Monday through Friday in a single week, meaning that he likely won that total in a single taping day.finishemzoe wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:05 pm UPDATE: Found an article that mentions the number $47,200 but it says that he won that in a single day, which we all know isn't true. I know that at times, people have mentioned that they knew the contestants of a particular game that wasn't in the archive. Is there a place where the list of everyone who has been on the Trebek era Jeopardy! regardless of whether or not their game has been entered in J-Archive is, or do people just know for some other reason?

Oh okay that's a really good point actually, I didn't even consider that... I guess the first paragraph of my post and what it's asking still stands. I would still like more evidence about Kevin's run, but I guess we can put that theory to rest for right now.seaborgium wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:05 pmThe "single day" thing isn't that far out when you consider that his five games aired Monday through Friday in a single week, meaning that he likely won that total in a single taping day.finishemzoe wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:05 pm UPDATE: Found an article that mentions the number $47,200 but it says that he won that in a single day, which we all know isn't true. There's no such single list in public hands. It's a lot of drawing from different sources, internet sleuthing, and guesswork, which you see a lot of in this thread.Cat Hammarskjold wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 3:46 am I know that at times, people have mentioned that they knew the contestants of a particular game that wasn't in the archive. Dr. Joel Nathanson from season 3 has uploaded his entire run here. Only his third game (February 5th, 1987) needs to be added to the archive. It starts at 57:04.

Well, after 2 years, Show #562 is back online. Bigblue, Trevor or Erick Dye-Cain, now is the time to download it and upload it to IA.

Re: New old games in the J! Archive
I understand. Thank you for your explanation. I had just been curious that since Hari is from Xenia, OH even though he went to and played quizbowl for Beavercreek if there had been any contestant from an unarchived game from Beavercreek, or if I still had the possibility of being the first contestant from there. But since there's no centralized list, I guess I'll never know.Robert K S wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 9:10 amThere's no such single list in public hands. Googling the name of this game's winner and the word Jeopardy brings up some fun, interesting stuff, including the number of games they ultimately win.

What I'm referring to is Show #562 that used to be on Dailymotion before it was zapped.Bamaman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 6:00 pmIsn’t it already in?Ivoryface86 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 2:05 pm Well, after 2 years, Show #562 is back online.
