I scrolled down and looked at FJ first, without even paying attention to the scores, and I saw Eric with a sole miss and a $201 wager and thought, "Too bad; $200 out of a lock game and he misses out on the finals with the right idea and the wrong name." Then I looked at the scores and realized he was covering third place and would have lost even if he had been right.

Yeah, but he got a wildcard spot, won his semifinal match, and placed second in the final. He was smart not to risk much of his $22k (after doubling) going into FJ.

I added 5/18/88 (Seniors SF3): http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=6399

Player pics of Tom Wickham, Ross Cameron and Louise Reyburn Dice have been posted previously.

Tom was eliminated after the QF round and received a spot in the semis only after D.J. Smith was ruled ineligible for his appearance on WoF less than a year earlier. Thank you to Sg for the research on this and I included a line on Tom’s page to summarize what happened.

Unfortunately, I do not seem to have QF5 with D.J. Smith’s appearance on tape. I skipped over SF1 as I was missing some of the J! round clues and will circle back to what I do have at a later date.

http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=1088

Monday, December 17, 2001, Christine Martin vs. John Nienow vs. Dana Greenblatt, courtesy CharlieD.

Knocking the first game off my list. This took a lot longer to finish than I expected, thanks to a nasty summer cold, but it's done now. No prize plugs or contestant interviews on Charlie's tape.

Two of the 3 names in 3 OR MORE WIVES for $2000 are new to the Archive, but Anna Kashfi shows up in a clue from 1987. (The other 2 names are misspelled, incidentally. You'll probably want to clean up that spelling if you put them on your flashcards.)
Anna Kashfi,
Movita Castenada,
Tarita Teripia
Spoiler
Who is Marlon Brando?
Clue of the game will be LITERARY CROSSWORD CLUES "G" for $1000, for reasons that should be apparent:
Sue Grafton said "G is for" this (7)
Spoiler
What is Gumshoe? (Remember that FJ! from last season? Ah, the memories.)
I stuck with my first guess for FJ and was wrong. Hope you had better luck. On to the next game.

I guess I also didn't look at the fact that it was a QF!

So Tom and Louise played together in the QF and SF, I just realized. I suppose they had already set the lineups for the SFs by the time they realized D.J. Smith was ineligible, and just plopped Tom into the vacated space.

The Prizes list at j-archive.com needs to be updated, there is 2 tournaments that hasn't been put into the prizes list yet, I would like to see these tournaments hopefully in the prize list soon.

Here's the tournaments that are missing from the prize list:

2019 Teachers Tournament
and the 2019 Teen Tournament

If someone can enter these Tournaments into the prize list soon, i be very appreciated of you

Thanks

That was the worst video quality/audio dropping I have ever had to deal with for archiving a game. I can only hope it was just a fluke on that particular tape. It was no fun doing a frame by frame pause just to get a glimpse at the clue’s wording, but I got it done and that completes the 1990 Teen Tournament.

I would have been okay with them accepting Jennifer's FJ response. That one little omission cost her a wild card (although she would have made the cut either way if she'd bet $0).

$5,000 is pretty though not sufficient. The penalty is $3,800 minimum (plus title & ToC) while Peggy added $7500 (& ToC) to her pocketbook thanks to it.

Flashcard alert! Flashcard alert! "Humper-hugs" are now Jeopardy! canon. I repeat, "Humper-hugs" are now Jeopardy! canon.

(And congrats to Mark on creating what will be Google's first hit for the term, once that game is indexed by their web crawlers.)

French History $1000. Joan was probably thinking of David d'Angers.

Should $1000 U.S. STATES start "1 of THE best-known"?

It feels like it was a common thing in those days to drop an article in the clue readout; Alex would fill it in when reading it.

Composers for $600 is interesting since I just heard this song on Prime Country last week. The DJ pointed out that the song's melody is "Largo" from the New World Symphony.
